Personally, I'd love to see (and absolutely don't expect) a standard USB connector built in, and an SD Card reader.

The former would be useful for hooking up an external MIDI controller, whilst the latter would mean being able to preview the evening's shots without having to carry around a separate adaptor - another thing to lose or mislay.

It's frustrating to be in the position of having to buy only officially sanctioned adaptors, too. Previously, I'd been using a cheap'n'cheerful multi-purpose adaptor that accepted cards and USB - but, the DRM in iOS 8 has changed, and that adaptor is now rejected by the OS, compelling me to buy an Apple USB adaptor.

Other than that: basically what everyone's said - 2GB, TouchID, laminated screen. And if we're shooting for the moon, LiquidMetal back casing. ^_^

The perfect thing would be for them to put a calculator on the iPad.

Another Apple nonsense not to put the calculator on the iPad.

The other Apple stock apps are bloatware. Most people would like to delete them if they could.

And some would find calculator bloat....

Look people, there are well over 100,000 iPad apps. If Apple doesn't supply a stock version go download one. You could even buy one! Yes, for like $3!!!

As for side by side... that is why Apple's doing the z-axis stacking windows that started in iOS 7. Side by side windows don't work well on smaller devices, but windows that overlap can (if done right). Also, you do not watch Youtube and work on your spreadsheet at the same time or any of the other silly use cases Samsung shows. One of the powerful things about the iPad is that the device really becomes whatever app you're using at the time.

How big do you think a calculator would be, anyway?

I agree with all you mentioned (don't care about stock apps though). An AMOLED screen would be nice as well.

Edge to edge display would do me.
Be a pain in the backside to hold it and it figure out that your holding it not touching that part of the screen to actually do something. Whilst the bezels could probably be reduced a bit edge to edge could lead to issues.

I find the bezels on the Air and the mini to already be a bit too small.

And people around here wonder why Apple fans get the most heat. :|

Thank you. I don't necessarily thing requesting something of Apple makes them whiny or unreasonable. I've often wondered why there wasn't at least a calculator widget that could pop over a your current app or something.

Apple must think iPad owners don't need to calculate or check the weather.

And I do think iOS 7 iPad optimization is severely lacking. The Music app!? Really. What happened to the album art view versus this list view with 60% blank screen? Also, the photos app seemed to have lost most of it's "fun" factor in the iOS 7 redesign. And I really don't like the calendar. Why only dots instead of full color labels over the event name?

On a 10inch screen, wouldn't that be very crowded?

Probably not. It would be like browsing on an iPhone on half the screen. Now the Mini would most likely be too small.

Back when my Mini 1 was jailbroken I used the Quasar mod to do this and it was very nice. I found that the optimal setup was in portrait mode with the top 1/3 used for the video player.

Yeah,

The Horizontal interface on the iPhone music app, would look so much better on the iPad. I liked the iOS 6 album view better too. Pity they didn't fix anything with iOS 8 :/

I guess that after iPad Air 2 will be released, it'll be the software that's gonna be the most limiting factor.

Haha. A calculator bloat. Sure.

They just need to offer all their iOS apps on all iOS devices and make them deletable and re-downloadable via the Appstore. everyone happy.

Perfect iPad to me would be

  • Larger screen
  • intergrated stylus support for all apps
  • Higher quality screen
  • Faster processor
  • File system

I want an iPad mostly for art so this is what is most important to me.

I can see how that will work for some people. It won't work for me, as I find websites too small when browsing in portrait, so I always browse in landscape.

What's wrong with the current screen quality?

2GB RAM or more.

anti-glare screen

high resolution digitizer for better note taking and drawing. Some sort of built in palm rejection technology. Pressure sensitive stylus.

dual app operation - I'd rather see a picture-in-picture implementation so I can watch a video or view a web page or other document while taking notes. We get a taste of this now. Select a word and ask for it to be defined and you get a small window with the definition so you can read it in context. Also nice to have drag and drop between windows.

Better light sensitivity and dynamic range in the camera. Ability to add external lenses that are optically aligned with the built in lens. I don't want more pixels.

I don't think we need a flash. If I'm taking a lot of photos of small objects I'd rather use a diffuser of some sort. A flash causes glare and shadows. I use Cortex Cam to reduce noise in low light photos. Works great. It would be more useful to have an external flash sync'd to the iPad.

I'd like to have a way to manually control focus. Sometimes I want a small object to be in focus but even if I tap on it the background is in focus, not the desired object.

Access to the file system. I'd rather have one file that can be opened in several apps than to have to keep moving files from app to app.

Use the iPad as a speaker phone to make and receive calls (is this coming in iOS 8?).

Better navigation. I can use spotlight to find an app but it won't show the app's location. I should be able to ask Siri to "Find the Memo app", for example. Now Siri says "I can't search apps. Sorry about that."

An option for a MyScript keyboard. This is a very accurate script to text converter. This might be an option in iOS 8 as it seems third party keyboards will be available. Apple also has the technology so they might do it themselves.

Improved speech to text. I'd like to also see the option for adding my own vocabulary. Now if I say "quantitative analysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy" I get a word salad. Just for fun try Yttrium, Erbium and Niobium.

I don't care about an Apple supplied calculator, weather or stock app. These are easily replaced. No offense, but if this is the most grief you have in your life you are extremely blessed.

I use TouchRPN for a calculator.

Touch ID. I expect this is coming soon.

Slightly better battery life would be nice. About 50% more.

A little bit lighter would be nice. I don't think it needs to get thinner.
