Whenever I had my non-touch bar model of macbook pro from the same generation, the PLAY/PAUSE button would play/pause whichever media was playing from an app. It would not count web players. That way, If I wanted to pause spotify so that I could watch a youtube video or something, I could just press the key. It was very convenient.

Well now with the touch bar, the play button tries to control multiple things, mostly things that will be on whatever browser that I am using. That is a cool concept but it is turning out to be kind of a step back in terms of convenience.

I bet there is some way out there to control this though and I was hoping that one of you knew a way.

It’s not the touchbar, it’s the modern macOS. And yes, sometimes it doesn’t work properly.

I don't have this issue.

I just use this button to switch between open apps to control.

The good news is that the new OSX will let me use my ipad as a screen and tablet finally. That is good at least because im a designer and astro pad is a rip.
