I was a little older for the Pokemon craze, but like all generations there is that one anime above the rest, mine was DBZ.

I'm full of myself. I don't see how that has to do with my comment? Those two don't correlate.

I never understood the Voltorb hate. I think it's a great Pokemon. Especially when it's actually used as part of the gameplay in the Power Plant. That was tense when I was a kid.

And Jynx, if I recall correctly, it a reference to a Japanese monster of some sort so of COURSE it's going to look kinda dumb to most foreign audiences.

The only two I can't really defend from Gen 1 is Mr. Mime or Exxegutor, those ones are just weird.

42 with kids who love Pokemon. That's the thing with stereotypes, they're actually usually wrong.

Well, no, they're usually pretty accurate. It's why they exist in the first place. It happens to be wrong for you (and myself) but there are plenty who fit in this category

The Pokemon TCG on an iPad sounds cool. But it will never, ever replace my Tropical Mega Battle No. 1 Trainer card. :)

ah MacRumors-- the place where men in their mid 20's are bitching about old vs new pokemon... get a gf guys.

As opposed to 20-30 somethings obsessively following whether or not Apple will have a bigger screen or a better battery life for months on end. Leo Laporte recently said "geek culture won." Why are you putting down one group when this site is every bit as nerdy? ;) (Not a fan of Pokémon, but don't see the need for being so condescending to a massive fan base).

I was replying to this:

The last gen is still strong and the PS4 is doing OK. The PS Vita? I've seen articles like this ("PSP Almost Matched the Vita's Sales in USA Last Month") for the last 2 years.

Almost 3 years after launch, the PS Vita has sold somewhere between 7 and 9 million units in total, depending on sources (since Sony keeps the exact numbers close to the chest); the PSP sold 80 million units over 9 years.
For comparison, the 3DS -which was launched 6 months earlier than the PS Vita- have sold about 45 million units. I wouldn't say that the Vita is doing "quite well".

Thank you! I was about to say: Sony mentioned Vita like one time at Gamescom and it was literally for five seconds. All the new games getting announced are going to PS4.

I wouldn't call >43 million sales of a device 'a dying industry'.

That's a hundred million unit drop in sales from the previous DS.....

----------

Nintendo alone. The PS4 and Xbox One are breaking records and the 3DS and Vita are still hot.

Yeah, the Wii U is a failure, but that doesn't count for the whole industry.

You're right, Microsoft broke the record of most money lost on the development and deployment of a system. I don't know if they really broke the record, but they lost over a billion dollars....I did recently buy one though. Maybe they will make it back....

At least Vita is a complete failure in Britain, you can get it from a second hand shop nowadays

I've never even heard of Vita. haha. I just had to Google it.

Hopefully the end of nintendo..just make games for ios

Sorry, not going to happen. They still make good games that people play, just not groundbreaking like on the N64.

The guy you're replying to is complaining about the wrong things. All the generations have object-based monsters. Those last two Pokémon, like most (but not all) of the new ones, just aren't creative. They make the new ones almost random generic monsters. I was never that into the old Pokémon, but at least I can remember them and their names, unlike whatever the last two you posted are. It gets closer and closer to this kind of junk:

The funny thing is that some people would see this comment and go berserk. "OMG YOU LIVE UNDER A ROCK." Nobody I know owns one, so I don't blame you.

Tell that to Nintendo.

Funny that, isn't Pokemon out on their handheld line? Which is seeing more and more sales per generation (XY being the fastest selling version ever).

The Wii U's a flop. But Nintendo has more money than Sony and a shot at having the best-selling handheld ever (a record they set with the previous DS).

----------

It's difficult to say if the Vita is death or not. It outsells the PS4 in Japan with no problems. Handhelds are just not that populair anymore. Kids these day's just want tablets and smartphones. -,-

So why isn't the 3DS flopping?
http://metro.co.uk/2013/04/18/3ds-sales-1-million-ahead-of-ds-record-in-u-s-3639544/, that was over a year ago but the 3DS came out on top in all global markets over the holidays and 2014, so it's a good chance it's still ahead. Surely if handhelds weren't popular, Pokemon XY wouldn't have been the best selling Pokemon game ever and the 3DS wouldn't be neck and neck with the DS?

The Vita is another story entirely. I have one and I love it, but it's definitely missing punchier titles.

What does that mean? You can buy anything from a second hand shop. You can buy 3DS/DS at second hand shops and they're the best selling handhelds ever.

My gf and I do :D, well except we both know that old and new Pokemon have their sucky designs as well as their excellent ones.

I disagree. Nintendo is the only game company that innovates. Sony and Microsoft just replicate Nintendo's systems with higher specs. So I hope Nintendo sticks around to keep on coming up with new ways to play.

On this topic, other companies outside those big three innovate in game hardware, too, IE, Apple, but competition is good. I want Nintendo to stick around, if only for them to have ideas that other companies copy.

They have more cash in reserve than Sony, they currently own the handheld market and the 3DS is a huge cashcow for them. The Wii U is a flop for sure (but a great one. Mario 3D World, Luigi U and Mario Kart 8 are excellent). There's nothing to worry about. Personally I'm excited to see what comes after the Wii U. People like to claim Nintendo is doomed; it comes from either a dislike of them, or a desire to get Nintendo IPs on their preferred platforms. To the latter I say suck it up and get a Nintendo console ;).

Once again, I was replying to this:

The dedicated video game industry is on an upslope and incredibly strong right now.

Me neither, I don't think anyone here is saying that it is.
I love mine. Recently been using it for PS4 Remote Play, Rogue Legacy, FFX, Tearaway and Luftrausers.
