If the seams do not denote a replaceable battery, what are the chances that they could delineate a section of the phone which you could interact with in some way (such as touch response)? The seams mark off the section of the phone that the majority of people will rest their fingers on whilst talking. I know that there doesn't seem to be anything in the internals that suggests this, but perhaps in a finalised version? I'm just daydreaming at my desk here... it's fun.

Removable batteries don't last as long as fixed ones, the covers/mechanisms to hold them in tend to break and cause structural weakness in the phone design - every time I drop my HTC, the back flies off, the battery jumps out of it's holder, then I get the pleasure of waiting 2-3 minutes for the phone to start up again, all for the sake of a full battery which gives me a maximum eighteen hours.

LOL at Mr. Butterfingers :)

The more I look at it, the more I… hate it. God, that's awful! Rather unflattering and crude + bad fit between buttons and body, even compared to the original. Mule, corporate edition… I so hope – and believe – the final version will be more appealing than this.

Are you saying you prefer plastic and chrome trim?

IMO the seams are there to provide a mechanism for a new dock/holder to click onto the iphone. I.e a GPS style app car holder, especially in landscape mode. The grooves, the square back and new dock would remove stress on the dock connector and allow smaller more compact holder.

Just me thinking that Gizmodo are being pricks about it? I wouldn't like my iPhone pulled apart to find out whats in it, then they give it back to Apple as if they did nothing wrong.

Don't think they will be invited to any more press events by Apple.

Oh stop your whining... IT'S THEIR JOB! to report all things tech!...

so If they want to tear down a phone to show us whats inside, so be it...

A) You're looking at badly lit amateur photos of a smudged and scratched prototype, not glitzy retouched ones from Apple.

B) While I strongly believe that the overall design is near final, I don't believe the metal has been given the deluxe treatment intended for the final product. It's like Tyra Banks before she puts her make-up on. I also think there's room for some minor cosmetic changes to stuff like the buttons, at least I doubt the volume buttons will remain unmarked. They could go for a rocker button for the volume, but I have a feeling they're going to be multifunction buttons for both volume and camera, so they might remain separate (and possibly unmarked).

That's a shame that. It's one of the few remaining things holding back the iPhone from being perfect.

So you're putting your faith of news coverage into Gizmodo because they say it's all true? How do you know what accuracy is when Gizdumo isn't even a reliable news source?

As you will notice, no major news agencies (CNN, Wall Street Journal) have even bothered picking up the story.

You just make stuff up as you go, don't ya?

The chrome frame look is already 3 years old but still it is a much more elegant join between the screen and the back than the new stepped look. I'm not too found of the plastic back of the 3g(s), the 1st gen is still my favourite in terms of aesthetics.

This [portotype] is just lacking in areas where Apple normally rules. There's no elegance, no clever curves, no perfect fit, nothing that says "sex" if you like. It's just plain shapes put together, with no hint of them even belonging together as an object. If it proves true I hold this as Apple's worst ever.

They've had it for weeks and they couldn't even get a decent light :) Still I think the most recent shots give a good enough image for me to be able to have an opinion about it, retouched or not. It could be pink for all I care, it's the unimaginative form, the bad fit, the lack of "I want to touch this so badly"-feeling that disappoints me the most.

He could have just given it to the manager of the bar or the local police department. Then he would not be a criminal and Gizmodo would not have purchased a stolen phone.

If you don't really know what you have till later why would he have done this.

There was no criminal intent so no charges can really be brought up.

Let me rephrase charges can always be brought up, that is nothing new but will they stand in front of a judge I doubt it. Bad judgement sure criminal no, we do not live in a police state.

Soften the curves slightly and it's quite similar to this concept from a few months back (from nowhereelse.fr).

Also…

…will it appeal to women in current form? I think Apple will exclude 50% of potential buyers with this one.

I'm no woman, so 50% + 1 :)

i'm hearing gizmodo had dinner with the iphone and taped it. they will release the tape in a few days.

I would return it to Apple... GIZMODO U R PISSING OF APPLE HERE... Who gave the rights to open an unauthorized device... If Apple takes it to FBI... I am scared to say GIZMODO will disappear over night... So stop this ******** and send the Phone in Good Conidition ... U Illegal Pervert .... Do u follow APPLE Employees, thats gross.

What an anorak! LMAO!! How old are you twelve?? The only person pissed off here, is you and a few other idiots who are taking this more seriously than Apple themselves:rolleyes:.
