Guh. So it's pointless to call AT&T about it. And is there going to be another update to add the camera icon to the message bar for texting? Unless I have the wrong build because i don't have the icon.

I can't imagine changing the services on an account is reason for delay - unless AT&T have really poorly designed systems. For most mobile operators this would be a trivial task involving an overnight batch process on the relevant accounts. The relevant accounts would be easy enough to identify by reporting on the appropriate IMEIs and then doing the changes. What a load of rubbish. AT&Ts systems must have been designed by an ape if this is really true.

70$ a month for tethering? I think 90% of UKs operators charge nothing for you to use your phone as a modem and haven't since the ancient Nokia's have been able to do this back in CSD days right through to HSUPA! *99# anyone??? Data's data. USA is totally taking advantage of it's customers. Then again, I remember being told that receiving calls was chargeable some time ago!

i was just on the phone with an att CSR for about an hour....
i have tethering working, mms won't actually send.

she said that the "opt-out" option was NOT activated, and that my phone IS provisioned for MMS.

i had MMS working in betas 2 and 3....

the CSR said that after talking to her supervisor:
"iPhones don't work with MediaNET, therefore they cannot send or receive MMS"

this is obviously a load of bull...

i think i'm going to call again and ask if i can speak directly with the supervisor.

You calling a load of bull is correct. Every data plan runs off of media net except for the blackberry plan because of the BIS service and the coding in the feature needs to be there for BIS to function. They just wanted to get you off the line there for the lame excuse that the iphone doesnt use media net so no mms.

Yeah, I am super disappointed with att.
but, As an ex-verizon customer, i can say that ATT is much better in the customer service department.

has anyone found a way to manually change the settings in the ipcc?

AT&T won't have MMS 'till the end of summer because they have no appreciation for their iPhone customers, 'don't feel like it,' and won't make any special arrangements even for their highest paying customers.

AT&T has clearly shown that they have no desire to work exclusively with Apple, so they are going to get what they asked for.

boy genius says its because att has to manually adjust everyones account to remove the block put in place for mms.

That's BS...... I'm not saying what he said is BS. Come on it's AT&T.. I'm sure they can have there computer run through the accounts and if the customer has a iphone just take the opt out automatic and move on to the next account.. All they have to do is program it that way...

If AT&T do go ahead with the $70 unlimited data / tethering plan they can go **** themselves, seriously. I haven't jailbroken a iphone yet and I've owned one since gen 1, but this would give me a perfect excuse to, and to switch to a diffrent carrier if apple decides to jump ship next year.

So I'll call them myself so they can at least manual "OPT OUT MMS" on my account only.

It should be done now by first come first serve basis and everyone else doesn't care to wait.

May be a dumb question, but who should I call (like what dept.) to remove the MMS opt out thinger for my dad's, my brother's, and my iPhone?

Maybe the new iPhones will be shipped with VoipOver3G (whatever the jailbreak thing that lets you use WiFi-only apps over 3G called) just to spite AT&T.

I ****ing hate AT&T (and I just signed to give them $1323209708 over the next two years!)

Calling at&t reps isn't going to do nothing besides put people that need to talk to a rep for something important on hold longer.
I actually feel sorry for the at&t reps right now, I would hate to be one of them.

How nice of AT&T to put so much time instituting a system that checks every iPhone user to make sure they're on relevant plans, but screw having it fix something that's actually beneficial to us!

If AT&T don't have MMS up and running by the 17th everyone here has a right to bitch but until then I can't understand the hissy fits going on here. Good grief. Apple said it would be running sometime this summer. Hell it might be by June 17th. You never know. No one was expecting the new iPhone on the 19th.

You must not be much of a software guy...

A developer with the proper knowledge of AT&T's database schema should be able to write a update script to accomplish this in about 15 minutes.

You're making a lot of assumptions that, quite frankly, I doubt you're qualified to make.

In a well-designed, well-maintained environment, sure. You're exactly correct. How many real-world environments are well-designed and well-maintained?

Jeez...everyone waited 2 years for Apple to finally include MMS, are these last 2 months really going to kill y'all? I think some of y'all just like to hear yourselves whine!

well played. . . . .i couldn't have said it better myself...plus, who really tethers anyway?

Sorry only employees can see the mms opt out feature in the sys. "care" "opus" or "pos II" you cant see that feature from your online account.

example this website here https://tlgposdotcom.cingular.com/v2/Login.html

Oh yes they can, log into the online site and click "View full bill", scroll down to this section and voila.

AT&T charges about $30 for similar smartphone tethering plan for 5GB per month. O2 is charging 15 pounds per month for iphone tethering (3 GB).

Don't really matter if they charge you for calling or receiving a phone call --- as long as you get a total package that is cheaper. Americans can afford to talk for about 700-800 minutes a month on a mobile phone. This is why both the European and UK regulators are looking at whether they should adopt American's way of charging for mobile phone calls. You people are just pennywise and dollar stupid.

i have the original iPhone and I've pretty much decided i'm not upgrading until I can get the iPhone from someone other than att...verizon would be a dream come true

Just spent 30min on the phone with AT&T. No dice with it. I have the camera icon and everything, IPCC file, but it wont let me send anything. AT&T said there is nothing to change on the feature. I saw that my bill had MMS Opt Out, but maybe there is supposed to be MMS Opt IN/OUT. I think AT&T doesnt want to change anything yet.
