If you don't need the portability, the rMBP is clearly a great choice (I still really love mine), but depending on which model you're buying I wouldn't say it's much more powerful. More powerful, yes. Enough to notice? Depends on what you're doing. I ran some tests that were extremely demanding - far more than most users would ever try - and the difference was ~20%. In a less demanding use, you'd never see it, I think.

I won't need it every day. Maybe 10 times a year. I will mostly use my new rMBP on the couch and in bed. It will be used for casual Internet surfing, emails, blogging, writing documents, and doing some picture and video editing.

Question, when you open quicken under bootcamp or VM...does it open weird?

by this i mean when the program windows opens does it look like it has a scaling issue and or glitch issue?

I haven't installed it yet, but it did have scaling issues in Windows 7 on my 13" rMBP. I'll have to see if Windows 8.1 handles it any differently.

Checked in to local Apple store to see in person...

And wow this thing is small! Looks bigger in pictures.

Keyboard is totally amazing, I'm a touch-typer for 30+ years and was going in thinking keyboard would be crap. But I was impressed.

I probably won't buy the MB anytime soon, don't need to, but the keyboard is amazing. Apple should come out with an external Bluetooth version of this keyboard.

I told you so. People didn't believe me until they tried it for themselves.

Agreed!! LOVE IT

My old 15" rMBP is connected to a 27" LED at my desk, with a Thunderbolt dock, external drives, etc. I'll use that for more powerful photo related tasks (until a better Mac Pro comes out later this year).

I usually only took the rMBP with me when a job required it, now this 12" MB lets me be free from the constraints of my desk for all the basic daily stuff.

I love the size of the screen (using the default display), the keyboard and trackpad are perfect, as is the performance. It boots much faster than my other rMBP.

Initially I thought that the iPad Air was going to be the perfect device for daily tasks, but I found that I didn't enjoy typing on the screen, and it is not as easy to hold and type. The hinged screen and keyboard are really the best for this. I don't mind that the rMB is not a touch screen as the trackpad and keyboard are flawless.

Couldn't be happier!!
