i am against apple revising that magsafe design simply because the casing would fray after a year or usage and the parts fell apart after some years. And we all know not to knock out the plug now.
I like Dells approach were the usb plu-chord is always illuminated and the light under the trackpad is light until the XPS is fully charged.

I never had issues with MagSafe. “We all know not to knock out the plug now”... That doesn’t make sense. We all know not to get in car accidents now so I don’t need my seatbelt? It’s meant for the accidental pull and has saved my MacBook multiple times.

It was just a translucent plastic panel. The glow was from the display backlight.
It’s extra machining and plastic. Sure not expensive but I don’t see Apple adding something that costs extra just for a logo. Don’t get me wrong I want it to come back but it’s in the past and unfortunately dead 😕

6 years, still going strong.

Tell this to kids.
Or pets.
sometimes I just hover my MacBook near MagSafe plug and it hops in position.
I don’t like ceremonies of aiming the plug or pulling it carefully, I like apple for taking care of such meaningless actions.

i'm on my 5th charger and i dont use that as i used to, wrapping that around and transporting in a bag, but that was the 2010 edition. i had parts fall of 3 of them. I keep my things in good condition and take care of my items. obviously this is not all apples fault because they outsource these power adaptors, i just feel there are more sturdier products out there that work. last and cost less.

USB C charging and no glowing logo = me happy.

no problems with MagSafe if it is based on USB C and not some proprietary charging method, like lightening.

And I can't follow your logic. As someone who just a few days ago very nearly lost a MacBook to a toddler tripping on the USB-C cable, I couldn't disagree more. "One cable" purists aside, Magsafe was a beautiful engineering solution. Hell, the LED even told you at a glance whether your battery was charged or not.
I think they were referring to the logic of somehow having more room in the display casing if it’s now apple silicon. (Hint: it wouldn’t).

They should use magnets and bearings to make the logo flip when you open or close the lid. That way the logo is right side up whether you're looking at it with the notebook closed in front of you or whether it's open. This isn't a useful feature at all, but might be in the spirit of some of Apple's over-engineering. :)
Rolls-Royce over-engineer their wheel logos so they stay upright as the wheel rotates. An Apple logo like that would still stay upright as the laptop fell because it didn't have magsafe! :)

The glowing logo is much older than "MacBooks" - the G3 PowerBooks of the late 90s'. MagSafe was introduced with the first Intel MacBook Pro.
MacBook/Powerbook. Same thing.

Yeah, one of the reasons was energy savings.

I miss MagSafe, but I also really like the fact I can now charge my MacBook Pro from any of the two ports on either side of it and every peripheral I use has the same cable and can also use any of the four ports.

They will be adding more ports so that will take care of your concerns even with MagSafe.

I like the glowing logo on my MBP, but I've also somehow never managed to stick my white apple logo sticker on the back window of my VW...Weird....

With the new silicon MBPs, internal space limitations should no longer be a consideration in Apple's "Thinnovation" paradigm as it was with Intel machines. Thinnovation was also one of the reasons why they ghosted MagSafe.

I have always thought of the logo and MagSafe as design hallmarks of MacBooks. I believe Apple thinks this as well, hence the return of MagSafe. I think they wanted to keep the glowing logo, but had other priorities to think about like thermal efficiency necessitated by form-factor.

With rumours of the return of MagSafe and removal of TouchBar, plus fan-less silicon MBAs, I wonder if it would be cretinous to expect the return of the glowing logo in future MacBooks?
I always thought the backlit Apple was a bit too "in your face" especially during meetings. I solved it by having a skin that just had a single thin border of the glowing apple exposed so I wasn't too sad to see it go. As for MagSafe, if Apple wants to create a cable with a custom magnetic end that is otherwise a fully functional USB-C/TB4 connection, I am OK with that otherwise there is no way I want to go back to a multi-cable/proprietary solution. Anyone who travels a lot and had a power supply get lost or go bad and had to scramble to find someplace that would sell an Apple brick of the right wattage knows what I mean. The Ubiquity of USB-C is a godsend.

All the recent Apple campaigns feature the glowing logo on the MacBook Pros and I find it hard to believe that it would have gone unnoticed or that the PR team only had 2015 MBPs.
This. The amount of backlit logos shown in Apple's ad campaigns increased significantly. I really think all the rumors about "flat" design point towards the increase in thickness hence new MacBooks will have backlit logos
