How much portability do you need?

I once got the 15" and had it for a week but realised for me it was too big to carry around a lot and move about. But too small for a desktop replacement. So I got an iMac.

Now I'm sellling the iMac because I will need portability for work this year. Plus I want to browse the net on the sofa!

I'm pretty level headed and make good decisions so I'd say if u want future proof power get 15", but if u want to move around with it a lot then 13" is for you. I'm buying a 13" soon, put it that way, and I use it for similar things to what you said.

The problem with the 13'' is that I doubt it'll be powerful enough to be my only computer. If it wasn't for that, I'd definetly get it (since I'll get an external display screen anyway).

Side note: My current laptop is 2.8 Kg, so the MBP 15'' is around 300g lighter, and the MBP 13'' 800g.

Allright guys, situation change. I need my troops here again! :p

I had just enough money saved for the iPhone 4, yet with this DropCall/YellowingScreen issues, I'm thinking of not buying it. Unless it all gets fixed, I am not willing to spend 600€ for a flawed device.

That being said, my current laptop (VGN-FZ21M Sony Vaio) has, after 2 years and a half, been having 2 major problems:

- It sometimes shocks me (near USB ports or at the bottom)
- Yellow Vertical Lines appear sometimes in the screen. I believe it is a graphic card's issue. While Sony gives extended 4-year-warranty for graphical problems in my line, I am not willing to send the laptop to the repairing centre (If they confirm it's a graphic card's issue the repair is free, but if they say it's something else, the simple DIAGNOSIS - and not even the repair - is around 200€). No way, José. I prefer to just get used to these lines.

With all this in mind, my switch to a new Macbook Pro can possibly be accelerated. Not only I have more reasons to switch fast, but I'll also have more money (considering the iPhone's money would be saved).

Nonetheless, I do not have enough money for now, for the 15''. Hell, even for the 13'', it's kinda tough. So my question is: do you think the 13'' would account for everything I asked for and keep me FULLY satisfied?? (when I spend large sums of money, I need to be SURE I become FULLY satisfied). Do you think its processor power would be enough? (I don't ask about the RAM since that would be upgraded in the aftermarket anyway) Or do you think I should wait until I can afford the 15'' i5? Also, is the 13'' screen hard to get used to? (my current laptop has a 15'' one)

What is your current computer's specs?

I want to tell you 15", i7, anti-glare hi-res, then upgrade with after market the ram and hdd...

But if your current computer does what you want, and it has equal or worse power than a 13", them get the 13" if you like the screen... Or same deal with the stock 15".

Keep in mind, 2.4 i5 auto over clocks to 2.94 and the 2.66 i7 goes to 3.33

My current computer has an Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.00 GHz, T7250, and 2 GB of RAM. You can check more specs by googling Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M.

The thing is, getting the high-end is a bit overkill, no? Money-wise, that is!

If your current computer gets it done, then any of the 2010 mbp will be just fine, especially given they all have more power... Just get the screen you want... the hi res anti glare are my favorite, but it is a very personal preference... Check them out in store or the reviews on here.

The current 13 is pretty powerful, although you might see a bit of a bump with the i5. I use some pretty heavy engineering software on mine, without issue. Granted, it's not up to the performance of the workstations at school, but it isn't too bad. I know there are a lot of people on here that use the 13" for A/V editing, so I am going to take a pretty safe guess that it will give you the processing power you need. As for gaming, mine games pretty well (mostly in bootcamp), with a considerably less powerful GPU, so I imagine with more memory and the better GPU, the 13 would be competent, just not at the highest settings. As far as screen size, the 13 doesn't seem too small to me at all. I use expose a lot when working with multiple windows, which is nice, and I hear spaces works well too, although I am not well acquainted with it myself. I also have a monitor to go with it, so I make good use of that as well.

If you aren't confident that you will be fully satisfied with the 13 though, I would say wait and save for the base 15". That will certainly suit your needs well, and if you don't mind the size of your current machine, that won't be an issue either. I can't tell you if you want the hi-res or not, that's more of a personal decision. I don't know that I would want to look at text that small all the time, especially if I had a separate monitor, but if you like the extra real estate, go for it.
