The G5 iMacs haven't moved in price or features since it's introduction. Is Apple having problems in fitting in a hotter processor?
The short answer: The price and features haven't changed yet because it hasn't been due for an update until recent weeks.

1. Problems fitting in a hotter processor? No. They are being bumped to 2.0GHz.

2. The price hasn't changed since its introduction because Apple doesn't do that. :p i.e. Apple rarely changes prices of models. Whenever price changes occur, they are almost always paired with updates.

3. The features haven't changed since its introduction because it hasn't been updated yet. Features don't change until a new revision is released. They don't just have a week where they say, "Hey, let's double the hard drives on the iMacs this week for the fun of it."

if you look at barefeats.com's comparisons of G5 systems, they highly recommended the old upgrade from the 5200 to the radeon 9600, their benchmarks should a very noticeable improvement in many tasks, so I say, yes, it is a better GPU

i think the barefeats data show the radeon 9600 pro. this card is really faster. see http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600pro/compare.html .
but according to TS it's only the 9600 that's in the imac. seems we'll have to wait and see. but i think they should put in the 9600xt. its only $50.

The price drops on the Cinema Displays have me hoping for a similar price drop on the iMac... here's to hoping anyway. Looking forward to owing my first Apple. :D

A price drop would be awesome. :) I'm not sure if we'll see a price drop considering all the upgrades that are rumored to be on the new iMac G5, but it's a possibility. :) The improvements that are rumored (double hard drive, double RAM, double graphics card, faster processor) are worth about $300-$350 to consumers, so a price drop by Apple would be generous, but we'll see. It obviously doesn't cost Apple $350 to make those improvements. They pay much less than that. :p

My hope was to see an upgrade to the iMac prior to "Tiger World Premiere." With the 10% discount would certainly be ready to purchase. Not sure if I should get one now or not.

That brings up a great point though. Where is the eMac update? Honestly it would take an engineer 10 minutes to take out the 1.25 chip and install a 1.5Ghz chip along with a new graphics card. All it would be is a simple "plugging-in" updated equipment.

With integrated chips like the eMac has, I wouldn't be so sure.... but yes, it isn't THAT hard to do.

I personally couldn't care less about a price drop. I would rather pay the current price and get the *hopefully* new features that I want.

You probably have a point, it just seems silly to me that they did not update the single PowerMac. It might not be a great seller, but gives people a more affordable tower with upgrade potential. Possibly they have a lot of back-stock of 1.8 PowerMacs and are trying to sell them before an update.

Couldn't/wouldn't the 1.8 GHz PowerMacs be updated with the iMac line? Since they were introduced in order to give consumers more choices and to offer a headless iMac with expandability. The PowerMac has as much in common with the iMac as the PowerMac. It only has 1/3 ratio for the FSB like the iMacs instead of 1/2 like the PowerMacs. Single Processor. Same graphics card as the iMac. Practically the same specs. And it wasn't initially introduced with the PowerMacs but added just after the iMacs. I think we'll see the 1.8 GHz PowerMacs be updated with or around the time the iMacs are.
