It's the annual question of what Apple will do with it's current top AW, once a new model is announced.

I can see the AW7 remaining in the line up, if the AW8 is something completely different beast. Perhaps a larger rumoured rugged model with a more robust casing and longer lasting battery. Then the AW7 becomes the mid-tier model.

But if the AW8 is merely a spec bump with the same form factor, the AW7 will likely see the same fate as the AW6.

No one knows. The 4 was taken out by the 5 which was deep sixed by the 6 that itself met it's seventh heaven by the 7. The 3 somehow clings on for dear life (which makes zero sense to most folk).

Perhaps this'll be the year the 3 is taken behind the woodshed. That might mean the 7 lives on, especially if the 8 is a newer refresh much akin to how the 4 was to the 3.

I think we'll end up with the SE, S8, and SE2.
Drop the S3, and S7.

SE is the lowest priced entry. SE2 is the mid level. S8 is the flashy option.

What would the SE2 be based on?
If it has the larger display and S7 processor, why not just call it the AW7. ?
