Same here. One ping. Then I went to silent mode. My iPhone is also on silent mode.

Mine has been on silent since day 1, and I have no intention of turning the sound back on.

And the sound of silence covers my phone, too, since now I only hear my gadgets when someone is calling me, and I think that's fantastic!

But doesn't silencing it, defeat the purpose of getting notifications on your wrist?

only time I turn sound on is at night when I go to bed, granted I use DND so I rarely if ever get a notification.

    ----------

    it vibrates on your wrist...

+ another one. Absolutely no need for sound. The whole idea is to be unobtrusive. To be honest, I'm not sure why the factory default isn't silent.

The ping isn't too bad. It's not as loud as an iPhone notification.

I like to turn in on when I'm on the move because I have missed some notification vibrations when on silent and the ping gives me confirmation that I actually did feel a vibration.

my pings are on, but the quietest mode. I only hear it if I'm in a quiet room really.

Because most people won't know it can actually ping unless you give them a taste of it first.

I've been enjoying the sound of silence since 2007 with my iPhones.

I am at the point now where if I'm wearing my Apple Watch, which is basically from the moment I wake up until the moment I go to bed, all I want is taps on the wrist, no sounds. I have it on no audio with prominent haptic turned on. The only time I ever hear sound is when my phone dings saying I have an email. I do not have emails going to my watch, so that's where the notifications end up happening for mail.

Yeah - the whole point of tapping your wrist is that no one else knows, I thought.

    I immediately turned it off.:)

Unlike most here I like the sound of the pings and don't feel they are at all obtrusive. I've had them on since I got the watch and have no intention of putting my watch on silent. Then again even my phone is very rarely if ever on silent.

Obviously, this is a matter of personal taste, but it's also a matter of how it fits into your life. For example, I have sound on most of the time, but I do put it on silent when it's appropriate for work. I'm an informal educator for a science museum, so that typically means that my watch and my phone both go on silent before I teach a lesson, or before I go into a meeting. If I have several lessons within a condensed time period, then I'll just leave it on silent all day.
