I expect the Touch Bar to be MacBook Pro only, for a while. Taking into account availability of all necessary parts etc.

But remember, beyond Touch Bar so much more is possible!

To be honest I am not bothered if they did it or not as I find the way I work is directly looking at the screen and touch typing - it seems to be a bar to help beginners. It would be odd though not to have it accross products, and should have their production ramped up on the parts by Feb.

I hope there's something by end of January. I've been waiting for new iMac, my old 2009 iMac (top of the line then, i7, 16 gigs RAM, etc.) is barely useable. Very disappointed no upgrade yesterday - for the first time in 30 years (!) of Mac use I'm debating going over to Windows due to lack of desktop. Yes the current retina iMac is pretty good but I'm unwilling to buy something without USB-C/3.1 support, not to mention over-priced

Like you, I have been waiting for a new iMac for quite a while as well. My 2008 iMac is on its last legs, and I get that spinning rainbow wheel of death pretty much every day now, especially whenever I run iTunes or iPhoto (or worse...BOTH at the same time). What's interesting is that when you give the specs on your computer, it occurred to me that an i7 processor and 16 gigs of RAM is a pretty sweet setup for TODAY'S iMacs! Are they really using the same processor now that they used 7 years ago?!? Or, is a 2009 i7 not the same as a 2016 i7? Also, is the problem with your computer just that it's OLD, and the parts just have "wear and tear" slowing them down (is that even possible in a computer)? Or, is it possibly a software thing and you just need to do a nuke and pave of your hard drive to clean it all up? I'm considering trying the nuke and pave approach with my iMac, but I need to copy all of my videos and photos to a backup drive first, and then go through the trouble of really starting fresh. I just don't know if I have the patience for it.

Same conundrum. Was going to buy an iMac this fall and now am torn over whether to get the old one or wait for an eventual new one. I'll use it to edit video but of course as the world moves to 4K and up, I'd like to max out processing/RAM to help futureproof. I'm tempted to just get one now, but wonder if in 2 years I'll be regretting not holding out for the TB3/USB-C version if that port is truly about to "take over the world".

Just wish Apple would give some guidance to its base of pro users and give us at least a heads-up. If the next iMac is 6+ months away, I would buy now. If it's coming in Jan-Feb, I would wait. The not-knowing and unreliability, which is becoming the hallmark of the mac line, is the most annoying part. For all we know, the next iMac could be in 2019 judging by the Mac Pro's dust-collecting history.

X2...... I'm in the same situation. Current iMacs are awesome, but I'm definately waiting for the new release. I will be video editing 4K in which there is too big of a difference between Thunderbolt 2 & 3. I'm planning on getting the new 15" MacBook Pro w/ Retina shortly. Both would be ultimate in I.M.O.

That sounds awesome.... but this is Apple: add 6 months to that and you have a release date.

Logic X support was said early 2017, so maybe... or maybe just a keyboard, or maybe nothin

My Early 2008, 8-core Mac Pro has stopped receiving OS updates (El Capitan was the last allowed update), the original graphics card failed and was replaced in 2013, and now one of the two network ports has failed. It has no ports newer than USB 2.0. So, I'm ready for an upgrade. I'd love to pick up a new i7 Kaby Lake iMac w/32GB RAM and a 2TB NVMe SSD. Amazingly, according to the Primate Labs Mac Benchmarks, the current iMac with the i7-6700K processor is 2X as fast as my current system in their multi-core benchmark! I've finally got the money set-aside for this refresh and am now just waiting on Apple to deliver the next iMac...
