So there are some new iPhones out. Who cares, really? I don't know whether it's the year (pandemic). Perhaps this year has made me realize that phones aren't a very important thing in life, especially when the phone I have is more than sufficient. Spend another $1,000 on something that really doesn't matter, adds no meaning to life, will be a temporary "wow" and nothing more? Nah.

Am I alone? These new phones don't excite me. Beyond that, they're downright boring. There are just more important things to lust after--like normalcy.

I think everyone has his/her right to have their opinion. I too don’t care for the new iPhone either. The pricing is just not worth what little they offer over the previous models.
If someone has a specific and valid criticism of a phone that's fine. But the OP's whole "adds no meaning to life" sounds like signs of an existential crisis and not a valid critique.

It often happens with tire kickers. They're interested in looking at the car, but when it comes down to forking out real money, they back out. Not everyone can afford it.

It's $1,000, and they sell millions of them. Most people can afford it. Its an iPhone, its really not that big of a deal.

I dont particularly want the 12 pro, the 11 pro is fine for me, but I like the new shape. I just bought the new iPad Pro, and it was a huge upgrade for me. I will buy whatever they make if it makes an impact on my day to day. I don't really take pictures so this camera upgrade game everyone is playing means nothing to me. I will wait until mine dies, or starts slowing down and becomes annoying, then I buy another one.

It’s just a damn little phone.! Not an expensive Rolls Royce. I don’t think people are that poor to can’t even afford a phone. It’s not worth wasting money on a phone that does marginally little better than their previous one they have.

Yeah, this. I'm pretty much the only person I know who likes tech/apple enough to frequent message boards about it. My friends and family just use what they have until it doesn't work anymore. Which is totally reasonable! But it just seems odd to come to a forum like this - which you know is for people to discuss tech/apple/iphones - to proclaim your lack of excitement for that topic. I mean… ok? So... keep using the phone you have?
I hear you. My closest friends are techheads but android users who hate iPhones and constantly berate them in discussions. My family all have iPhones but older models and will only upgrade every 4ish years. Macrumours and reddit are basically where I can discuss this tech with like minded people.

For some people, being able to take a Night photo or selfie is worth a $1,000. It's the value that you place on that feature. Like they say, you only live once.

Meh, I'm excited about the new, more compact design. I know it's not life changing at all, but life is pretty boring at the moment and I know I won't be spending any money on a sunshine destination vacation anytime soon so...
Yup this is a good point. Would I rather life get back to normal than have a new iPhone, of course, but one is possible now and the other isn't.

Nope, still excited. It adds meaning to my life, if it doesn’t to yours that fine too. My life hasn’t really changed due to the pandemic so my life is still as normal as it was pre-pandemic.

Done buying emotionally few years ago... Also upgrading each 2 years, only on nm changes... not on architecture changes.

I rejoice that tech is so good that there aren’t compelling reasons (for some) to upgrade. I don’t want current models to suck so we can be wowed next year.

I love that people are getting more perspective on what matters most (it’s not tech).

However, I will never call a modern smartphone boring. There is really an unlimited number of things you can do with it. To call it boring is the sign of a small mind.

WOW, just WOW Op, your posted content, it's rarely ever positive. Maybe, just maybe, posting on a tech forum may not be for you. Maybe another hobby, needle point, archery, IDK. Some folks, myself included, get excited about how the new phones can add to my daily productivity, especially now that the world is changed.

What an ignorant view. You can get whatever iPhone you want by paying monthly installments. Don’t act like it’s a privilege to buy an iPhone.

Whatever your bank account displays, your soul is poor 🤗

If your credit is bad you get rejected. If your credit is bad carriers will want upwards of a 50% down payment. So no not everyone can get monthly payments for iPhones. Most people cannot afford high end smartphones which is why low and mid tier phones reign supremes sales wise. It’s a privilege to buy any smartphone 700+ since most people really can’t afford to buy one outright. Heck most Americans nor most people in 1st/2nd world countries can afford a 600.00 emergency expense.

Back in the early iPod and iPhone years I got every new device. The changes from one to the other were really significant. I haven't upgraded my phone since i got my current iPhone 6. This is partly because the changes started to become very incremental, but also just through getting older and a bit wiser I became more sensitive to the consequences (e.g. environmental and economic) of my purchasing decisions. I've always been in a solid financial position, so whether I can afford the latest tech is not a consideration.

It sounds like the pandemic has given the OP some perspective, and that's not a bad thing. I'd bet the OP isn't on an iPhone 6, otherwise she'd be a bit more excited like I am! (I'll be upgrading to the iPhone 12 mini the minute it comes out - can't wait).

Just be grateful there are iPhones at all. Without iPhone, there'd be no instagram. iPhone changed the world; it gave voice to the mute, and sight to the blind. Is that how you show gratitude? SMH

Thanks for injecting some reality in this thread.

It's nuts that some people don't understand being approved for financing is a privilege itself.
