Remember, all the pro phones have a PVD coating on them. Even the natural Titanium color has PVD and that may be the reason the surface is not acting like a bare Titanium surface.

Not everybody has oily skin. Imagine all those people touching a phone. Every been to an Apple Store and seen fingerprints galore? Sweetly hands/oily hands/dirty hands/kids. It is only you who will be touching your personal device. And if it bothers you that much…CASE it.

It also appears slightly bent upwards…..BENDGATE all over again?
Could be the shadow below creating an optical illusion. I’m more interested in the disappearing bezel on top. This may be an altered photo?

But the side bands look totally legit…

Honestly, I think this may be more a factor of the brushed finish than the material. The stainless was a high polish finish, this Ti is brushed. While the polish finish will show fingerprints easily, a brushed finish can absorb oils to a point.

The durability of the PVD is also unknown, since afaik we don’t know what grade of PVD finish they used. Just like anodizing, PVD can be very robust or quite thin and fragile.

Imho, practical differences between the implementation of stainless and titanium on the iPhone are going to come down more to structural design, heat treatment, surface finish, coating, etc than the raw material properties.

I suspect people will find things to complain about because that’s what people do.

You really think these phones are not meticulously checked before they're put on display? Apple know there are going to be thousands of cameras pointing at these things, every phone will be checked over before being put on these tables. Please have some common sense.
Agreed. It’s my understanding these are often pre-production models that are put together with more care than the mass production runs.

Just think of the fingerprints as a way to add some texture to the appearance. A true personalization of your iPhone. And as a bonus: positive identification as yours in the event of a theft. 👍

Aren't those from the Tuesday event? I can't even imagine how many people's hands were on those display units.

Why does that matter? Do you know how many times an individual touches his phone on a daily basis?

Do the midnight MacBooks need 100s of different fingerprints touching them in order to produce a fingerprint on the body? Nope, they just need one person touching it.

Claiming its because tons of people touched it is ridiculous. If one person goes up and puts their hand on a pane of glass, it’s going to produce fingerprints. Saying it would need multiple people’s hands is nonsense. Yeah some people’s hands are more oily than others but for the most part if something easily attracts fingerprints its only going to need one person touching it for them to show up.

Your last statement is so true.

I feel like all I heard about the 12-14 models (and really the X and 11 too) was how bad they showed fingerprints. These brushed finishes at least look a bit better. But, as always, if the fingerprints bother you, put a case on it or get a lighter color.

On the PVD coating, the PVD used on the stainless steel iPhone models proved to be very durable. I assume the PVD on the new Ti models will be at least as good. Time will tell of course.

This has been the case with any dark Apple product, ever...

No it is not. None of my Space Grey iPad Pro‘s or iPhones or MacBook Pro‘s had this problem at all.

Heck, I even have devices that are pure black which doesn‘t have this issue.

Apple simply screwed up with the midnight M2 MacBook Air.
Literally nothing new.
The glossy Black plastic iPhone 3G and Black Plastic MacBooks also scratched, as did pretty much every color of the iPods over the years.

So this will be my first titanium device, is that easy to clean off with just a microfiber cloth ??

FTW!!!

This year's iPhone-gate af!
Nope, we haven’t started yet. I distinctly remember being afraid to use my camera last year just after first deliveries because it might shake itself to pieces. Anyone remember that!

Wait about four days after first deliveries and then pick your “gate”…

You assume it is reflection. You don't know that because you haven't had the iPhone in your hand.

As of now, the glass looks uneven from the pictures. As to why, remains to be seen when they become available in the Apple Store.
No. I’m seeing it as if it was in front of me. Just look at it. That’s not an assumption. It’s an observation. It’s literally as clear as day. The fact any of you could think that was a wavy glass is laughable. Truly laughable. Especially since the waves line up with the reflection.

Smh

iPhone Titanium looks like smudged tool from toolbox. I have a wrench which looks like that. Very classy. For $1000.

Isn’t it strange that people buy phone partly because if it’s finish but then case it to protect it or prevent finger prints and never enjoy the finish?

No one has yet to explain why this matters. Just lots of "LOOK AT THE FINGERPRINTS!" ... and?

Yes, things get fingerprints, especially polished surfaces of any kind and almost any material ("brushed" is still a form of polishing). As with anything that gets marked that way—the glass surface of the screen, a countertop, a coffee table, your desk, whatever—you wipe it down periodically with an appropriate cleaner or damp cloth. That's it.

If it still bothers you, the problem is you, then, not the surface.

Isn’t it strange that people buy phone partly because if it’s finish but then case it to protect it or prevent finger prints and never enjoy the finish anything?

This constant internal conflict between a desire for an object to make you feel better and the realization that real life do not match the invented reality of marketing puffery in all its 3D rendered, permanently clean, perfectly manufactured glory.

You are NOT seeing it in front of you, because you don‘t have the iPhone. So it‘s pure speculation on your side.

“I‘m seeing it as if it was in front of me …“, so you are imagining something in your head and presenting it as a fact.

It’s like Apple didn’t learn anything from the Midnight SmudgeBook Air. According to the Verge, only the darker colors show fingerprints so it’s white for me.
