If he really punched a producer over a late meal, he probaby deserves to be fired.

I know, he is an a**h*le
But at the same time is this how the show going to end with clarkson punching a producer because there is no meal on set.... Its a mixed feeling for sure.

BBC in quite the predicament.

- Top Gear brings in a huge audience world wide and they make a lot of money from overseas screenings
- Top Gear arguably one of the few BBC shows left that satisfies the license payer
- BBC in 'possible jeopardy' as MPs look to change the law so license fee dodgers are dealt as civil matters and not criminal

There's so much uproar about what Clarkson does and says, yet there's many other TV shows broadcast in the UK that are as bad or worse (though they're past the watershed).

Netflix - can you help us out?

Maybe if Clarkson was touching up kids this wouldn't be an issue eh? F the BBC.

Anyway, even if the BBC does cancel TG and fire Clarkson it really doesn't matter. Every TV company in the UK will be offering top dollar to sign Clarkson up for a new show which will most certainly, yet coincidentally, bear a striking resemblance to Top Gear.

I just hope whatever comes next is scripted better. In the past few years TG has been scripted absolutely awfully. It has always been scripted but the writing has gone really downhill in recent years.

I would imagine he'd go for something bigger. My understanding is he's a bigger global phenomenon than he is British celebrity.

Is he? I never knew that, I knew TG was popular around the world though.

Either way I imagine he'll get into something else motor related on telly.

What will be the new name for the Stig? Assuming that the BBC owns the rights to that name.

IMHO, it's probably good timing to quit TG.

I absolutely love Top Gear, I have all the shows on my Apple TV, and seen most episodes at least three times. I stayed at home on Sunday nights to be able to watch the new episode on BBC 2.

However, the show is starting to show it's age and they're starting to repeat themselves. Maybe this kind of "force-quit" is the best way.
There should have been 10 episodes in this series, but the last few might never see the light of day.

Some say.... maybe this story was scripted too... ;)

The show jumped the shark years ago.

It's still gorgeously-produced, and some of the things that made it great -even bits of Clarkson's persona - are still there.

But Clarkson has gotten too big for his britches, Hammond remains insufferable and gets more toady-ish with every passing year and May (my favorite of the three) loses credibility for me by closing ranks with "the boys" when they do/say something stupid. He's become the Ted Nugent or Rush Limbaugh of Great Britain. He's just a step or two away from Nigel Farage. A caricature, and the show is starting to take on the same aspect.

It's time for change, and I'm shocked that anyone would ever hint (as some in the media are) that Top Gear is bigger than the BBC. It isn't. I also doubt that the quality of whatever he does next will equal the best of Top Gear, even though it'll certainly be lucrative.

Sack him.

It would be a shame to see it go, especially when I actually had audience tickets for the episode that was due to be filmed this week :)mad:).

It ceased being a show for the car enthusiast a long time ago however. I guess it's in the nature of what they do, entertainment is the prime focus and their adventures are what makes each season so great (less so the in-between episodes where they do crap like the ambulance thing) and appeal to a wider audience.

Their take on the new hybrid supercars for example was out of date, we had Chris Harris and his like produce fantastic videos of them on YouTube months ago.

Anyway, even if Clarkson leaves the BBC, I highly doubt it will be the end of his brand. Other networks will fight to the death to sign him on for another show.

Inevitable really. You can't physically assault a work colleague and expect to get away with it.

Top Gear was a great entertainment show, but needs a refresh. The Top Gear Challenges were always my favourite, but it's so scripted you can now predict what car they'll buy and what will happen

Clarkson is dead, long live Clarkson!

See you on $ky!

Now the question is will Hammond and May join Clarkson wherever he ends up. Their contracts are also up after the current season.

James just said on SkyTV that the three of them are a "package" so let's see what happens.

James May already said they're a package deal. I hope Netflix picks them up.

That is what I figure after it was revealed they wouldn't record anymore episodes of Top Gear without Clarkson.

And I also hope Netflix picks them up so us Americans can still get legal access to whatever the new show with them is called. :D

I, too, hope Netflix picks it up rather than an expensive premium channel you can only get on Sky in the UK or cable TV in the US. Netflix will give the show to Brits and Yanks at the same time legally, everyone's happy.

If not Netflix then I hope for a terrestrial channel like Channel 4, I can imagine them wanting to go for it but I also don't think they have the clout and funding required. It's not ITV's thing and Channel 5 lol yeah right. If not Channel 4 it'll have to be Netflix or some Sky channel, I hope for the former.

We'll see.

Probably the best option.

Other options:
FX
AMC (Probably not, as they are partners with BBC for BBC America)
Hulu

Ugh, I'd rather not see FX or AMC. The great thing about BBC not having commercials is they're free to crap all over cars without worrying about pissing off advertisers. What if, say, VW for example buys ad time on Top Gear - would any reviews of VW cars actually be honest?

Netflix, I think, would be the best option. IIRC, they're already available in all of N and S America, most of Europe and AU and NZ. No worry about walking the fine line between honesty and advertising. And it would be a huge financial win for them. Netflix spends more producing one episode of House of Cards than the BBC spends on an entire series of Top Gear, and the show is a goldmine - it would basically be a license to print money.

If that's the case, the BEST option is HBO.
