Let’s not pretend they have the same size. If the slight decrease in size doesn’t bother you because of other benefits of having the X then that’s fine. However let’s not argue with the facts.

It's just such a small difference that I see it as way overblown. Plus users act like the X will be unusable.

The main thing is with the X you will get more usable screen real-estate in normal usage with a more pocketable device.

It's actually less.

The X has a smaller physical display area. The usable display is also less compared to the Plus.

Anyone should be able to see this. Load an identical webpage of text on the X and compare to a Plus. The Plus displays more.

It’s not nearly the same size as the Plus. If you compare it with the 5 inch Pixel 2 on Phonearena you will find it has the exact same width whilst being slightly taller. It’s more like 5.1 or 5.2 but with lesser width thanks to the aspect ratio.

It's a 5% difference, we'll live. Loss of the huge bezels/chins and addition of a higher resolution OLED make it easily the better choice.

The notch and lack of home button on the X were a deliberate choice by Apple. They could have put a virtual home button like Samsung did but they wanted to differentiate the X from the S8.

Also for portrait web browsing the X will be better than the Plus.

Not necessarily, because it is more narrow, the and images will be smaller. So there would be more vertical lines, but it would be harder to read (and type - which may be a big deal for those with large hands). If the text is displayed as the same size it would wrap around to multiple lines - eliminating the extra height advantage.

I think it is undebatable that the Plus will display larger Text and Images than the X but the X, in some instances may show more text and images at once than the Plus - but slightly smaller sized. It is still unclear to me how noticeable the decrease in text size will be compared to the Plus - actual use when accounting for resolution, quality of screen and layout may make it a nonissue.

It is also unfair to compare both phones against each other. The Plus is specialized beast of a phone designed to maximize content viewing (both in size and battery life) at the sacrifice of size. The X is really seems intended to be more of a generalist (although not priced as such) which offers a large screen with a or convenient size. Which was the original market for the 6/7/8 models which the X will likely entirely replace in the next 2 years.

I used to think high resolution OLED was awesome but later found that PenTile OLEd and LCD can’t be compared. At 458PPI it’s not going to be as sharp as the Plus at 402PPI because of the pen tile matrix.

You know my 10.5 iPad has a lot more viewing area, but it wouldn't work very well as a phone.

After carrying a 6+, 6S+ and a 7+ on my hip, I'm ready to downsize a bit in phone size. And since no one is claiming the X is smaller than the 8, I'm looking forward to the X

Then why does every hands on video comment on the display quality? Even comparing it directly with the other new iPhones this year, saying that it’s better and a clear difference.

Just don't bother. The Plus users will never admit that anything about the X could ever be better than what they currently have.

Some of them don’t care and are getting the X anyway. Of course it wouldn’t be unusable. Heck I used the iPhone 3G and 4 and they were only 3.5 inches. I just like the real estate on the plus models

I am a plus user. Why are we arguing over which is a "better" phone or not. Everyone has different needs (or wants) and what is better for them may not be better for you. We should not degrade another's choice simply because they like something different, unless they are choosing and Android .

I for one am looking forward to the X (again, as a plus owner).

I AM a plus user though, and I very much want the X!

Better was not my point. My main point was that it's a 5% difference in surface area and that in my opinion, the features of X outweigh this very small difference. It's such a small difference that I think the argument is overblown. I am with you though, it's all personal preference.

Colour reproduction is hands down better. We will just have to see about the sharpness because some people cannot see a difference in sharpness between an iPhone 8 and 8 Plus but I can.

I care about the smaller display size and I'm getting the X. It's a legitimate complaint though.

The X display width is nearly 1/4" narrower than the Plus. This makes a significant difference in the way text and the keyboard is presented in portrait orientation.

Xcode 9 includes an iPhone X simulator. Someone with access to the software can make comparisons.

Is no content going to be visible in the margins? Is content confined to just the safe area?

Whats happnin here? iPhone users hating on other iPhones. The cycle just goes around till theres nowhere else to go and you’re all bashing each others iPhones lol. Who gives a flying...? Just buy whatever frosts your flakes, and enjoy!
This trend of fiercely protective defence of ones electronic device purchase is truly bewildering

How is it a legitimate complaint? This phone was never marketed or meant to replace the Plus so the complaint that it has less screen area than the plus really isn't a legitimate complaint.

If it was meant to be replacing the Plus but had less usable area then that certainly would be a legitimate complaint.

What I fail to understand is how people just point out the "con" of less usable space without also pointing out the pro of a smaller physical device. I get that there are Plus owners who like how big the device is physically, but I was one of the Plus owners who hated how big the device was but loved the larger screen. The fact that I can now get a similar experience in a much smaller form factor is one of the main reasons I am getting the X.

diamond pentile and pentile are 2 very different things

Just think, we could have had it all. No one would be arguing over anything, had they designed the phone properly the first time. I’ve been waiting for a few years to get a refined design over the 6, it didn’t happen. Too many sacrifices were made. Some can live with them, some can’t.

If the new iPhone looked like the Mi Mix 2, as shown, we wouldn’t be having these conversations.....unfortunately the Mi Mix 2 doesn’t run iOS or I would set my sails and head out to the distant shores past Apple.

We used to have the plus vs the non plus Wars. I wonder if it will be a 3 way battle now.

Not everyone hates the notch you know.

And not everyone who says that is ‘pretending’ not to hate the notch.
