My 2.4 is not noisy at all.

I feel it was worth it as I’m scoring up to over 1300 single core on Geekbench, and looking at the charts I’m even beating the new Mac pros in some cases. Single core performance is important for audio production so I’m considering that an important benchmark for me. The computer does not get noisy unless the cpu is at full load, and even then it is not that loud to me, my 2016 and 2011 MBPs are both louder at full throttle.

I have read about some people having problems with excessive fan noise so I do believe that’s a problem but I don’t believe it’s the 2.4 cpu that is the problem. In fact a lot of the complaints have been from i7 owners.
Can I ask what config of the 2.4 you have? I'm days away from purchasing either the 2.3 or 2.4 with the main intent of being able to use logic as flawlessly as possible.

Dont buy the 16 for logic.... just dont. You will have permanent fan issues due to the crappy dgpus they put into these machines. In logic you can not bypass the dgpu as far as i know. If you can disable it maybe... but better double check. I suggest to read the thread on gearslutz. Most people there either returned their unit or run it with turbo off (severely limiting the cpu) in order to use it.

Went through that thread, thanks for the look. It sounded like you can use the igpu with a force code in terminal?
Other parts of the thread were saying that it runs really well as far as processing plugins and sessions... Which 16 did you buy? I also don't know where to find where people list how big of a session they run with these Mbps... I see "med-large workload" but nothing quantifiable like "12 VIs, 10 audio tracks, 25 plugins etc"

Yep you can disable the Radeon using a code in terminal, and it works in Logic Pro. It just won’t work if you use an external monitor.

If you watch the cpu clock speed it is very consistent around 3.5 ghz with the integrated graphics. It jumps all around from 1-4.9ghz when the Radeon is in use, which is not good for running a DAW.

mine is 2.4/32g ram/ 5500 4g/1tb. But it is not completely free of problems that’s for sure. I just found a good work around with the terminal script. If you want to use a bigger monitor with logic just get a mini... I’m thinking that’s what I should have done.

Of course you could just ignore all of this and let the Radeon gpu do it’s thing. I just didn’t like how hot the area around the touch bar was getting and how much the fans were spinning up.

Logic isn’t a graphics intensive program, any integrated graphics handle it fine, seems excessive that the Radeon needs to be such a power hog and get so hot to show a few waveforms moving across the screen, at the expense of cpu performance.

I’m starting to think they will never fix this. I’ve shared diagnostic files, screenshots and screen recordings and spent hours on the phone with their reps. It makes me mad but what can I do? I thought about demanding an exchange for a mini or an iMac but I’m way past the return window now. I think it may be a fault in the Radeon card itself, but who knows maybe they’re waiting for the next OS release to update the driver and fix it, is all I can hope.

I'm scoring around 1250 in single core on my 2.4

I posted that January 17... man I wish I figured this out sooner. That was right after my return window closed.

So yeah my opinion has changed a bit since then haha. It’s still a really fast computer. I just have to pretend I didn’t want to use it with an external monitor.

Wouldn't a cheap eGPU solve your problem? Something like RX580.

I've decided to trade my refurb 2.4 32GB for a refurb 2.3 64GB for a £130 price difference. The extra ram will serve me better in the long term than the small CPU bump, in my opinion.
