I ordered mine Jan 20th and because it was through a reseller, I had to wait for it to ship twice. They finally got it from Apple on Feb 14th and promptly sent it back out to me in the San Jose area up from Oregon. I've been tracking the shipment on UPS hoping for some miracle driver with a heavy foot who can nail the winding turns of the Northern California mountains in a tractor trailer like a Champ Car.

No such luck. As of last report, my new machine in about 40 miles away in San Francisco at one of their centers and I have to wait all weekend for it to get here on Monday! Auuuggghh. This is going to be one long weekend. I want to drive up to their warehouse and beg them to let me in so I can pick up my new MP! So close, yet so far away!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all that positive info about the noise (or no noise) level of the Mac Pro! It sounds (no pun intended) great!

But what about the 8800's fan when working with applications that don't rely on graphics so much, such as audio software for example?..

I'd love to have the more powerful 8800 than the ATI for occasional graphics work and gaming, but not if it's fan is working hard all the time..

Thanks.

Yes, it is super quiet. That, too, is the first thing that I noticed. There's a slight swoosh sound when starting up, and that's it. The keyboard is very tiny and takes a while to get used to it, but as I'm typing, I realize I've gotten used to it already. My only problem had to do with the Adobe update. I have PhotoShop installed, and I got a notice via Adobe that updates were available, so I clicked install. After the install, the computer was supposed to restart, but nothing happened but the fans came on with a black screen on the monitor. I had to push the power button and then start it again. I didn't have the problem when 10.5.2 was upgraded, so I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, I reset the PRAM and haven't experienced anything like that again. It seems to awaken from sleep just fine.;)

P.S. I don't hear the fan on the 8800 at all.

pretty quiet, fans started to kick in when installing xcode, but thats expected.

i cant hear anything over my girlfriend's old pentium 3

Will ask her to turn hers off to see how loud 8800 is
