I just installed Home Basic on trail on my MAC MINI.

Just run a command prompt as an adominstrator and type in.

slmgr -rearm

and I get the counter reset back to 30 days. No errors. There are a few things I'd never get used to. But there's a lot of good in it also. Not slow at all either.

Thanks,
ivnj

I might like to point out of course you are going to find a crap load of things wrong with Vista if you go looking for them. The problem with the apple community is most of them will use vista looking for stuff wrong with it and will not give the good stuff in it a fair chance since all they are looking for is the bad.

Well I suppose so, but the problem with the Windows community is that for the most part, they don't notice anything wrong, because they don't know any better. Microsoft has been handing them half-baked horse-hocky for so long, they think that's the way it should be.

I have another Vista comment. I just wanted to adjust my time and date. It is crazy that I had to click in two places the option to change time and date. Why not take me to the correct screen from the beginning and not another spot where I would have to choose the option all over again. Plus the kicker was when it asked me to give it permission. I fear the person who wants to hack my clock and change my date. It is so stupid because it asked permission and did not need a password, it just need me to click ok. Now that is stupid because anyone could click ok.

don't get me wrong windows has it flaws and I know I see them and I have rather tick off at times at my desktop because of windows issues. I am still running XP on my tower and it will go to vista when I can get it for free - dirt cheap from my school which should be later this month. For the most part the problem in XP are no where near as bad as people make them out to be. Hell all my blue scream problems that where getting worse over the past year where all cause by a graphic card that was failing and after I replace it there is only one issue that I know would require a reformat to fix and I am pretty sure that the cause of that one was caused by the corruption cause by the failing graphic crashing my computer and hell even that issue as drop from coming up ever hour or so to I can count on one had how many times it happen since I replace my graphic card last month. I learned that a lot of the problem with XP normal are hardware issues and not software issues.

Now as for the security problems in XP that is another beast in itself and yeah it pretty bad. Now if you are willing to take the few minor steps it takes to keep an windows computer safe and running it pretty maintenance free and not huge glaring issues, Those being have an update AV scanner and the OS updated that really solves most of the issues that people have.

But like I said the people here in large attack everything M$ makes and looks for problems in it and turn a blind eye to apple mistakes or worse cover them up and say it ok.

The thing is when you use OS X you start to see more clearly the differences between it and Windows. Then the Windows attempts to be OS X become more obvious and that starts to make some Mac users sick. For instance Flip 3D, Expose is so much better. Gadgets, The way widgets are displayed and handled in OS X makes more sense.......... When you see a better product the former products short comings just pop out at you. And I have yet to see any OS better that Mac OS X.

I have nothing really against Vista... it's just I don't like it, it's not my style -- OS X is. i would NEVER use it as a main computer. Ever.

I don't really know how anyone would really use it after using a Mac.

You can generalize if you like and nobody can disprove it, but then this is a Mac forum, so no surprise that people hereabouts prefer the Mac. Still, if I get to generalize too, the Mac community (assuming such a thing really exists!) is a relatively "worldly" bunch. They tend to know a heck of a lot more about Windows than the average Windows user knows about anything else. Second, the Mac community tends to be quite critical of Apple when they fail to deliver up to their high expectations. Cripes, just look at all the lengthy rag-on-Apple threads on these boards over Apple's delay of Leopard. Do you think any gathering of Microsoft customers would gather to shout, "lies! lies! lies!" over any Microsoft product being delayed a few months? The truth is, Apple customers expect far more from Apple than Microsoft customers expect from Microsoft.

My pop has installed Vista Enterprise on the iMac. It's *******. They took XP's trump card (GUI speed) and sliced it in half. the way windows kind of fade and zoom in, but from about 80% to 100%, not OSX's 0-100%, is a huge put off for me. the way it does this with any window is really irritating.
So together with removing XP's trump card they push XP's worst feature - the nanny. I have to press the "continue" button for everything. Full of strange bugs too, my dad was installing Office and put on an image slideshow as it was progressing through the installation... Couldn't quit it until Office had finished. Stupid bug.

Not keen. I'll be holding out until they release a huge update. I'm unbiased to OS's as I use and like features in both OSX and XP - but Vista is such a colossal let down. OP spent a week with it? I couldn't last a day.

Simple. I love my new MAC MINI. But mac doesn't do everything.

The Mac does Windows and Linux, whats left?

I know, I'm sorry. I meant OS wise. OSX is stabl, easy to use, etc. But lack of some applications, hardware support, etc make Windows still very usefull.

I mean I know Parallels, Bootcamp, etc. But I still have to buy a copy of XP, Vista or whatever.

If the EXE's would run natively without any emulation, Coherence or whatever then MAC would be the best.

So untill 3007 I guess Windows is still very useful.

Thanks,
