That maybe Apple is planning to rev up product cycles somewhat, with smaller updates, so it isn't a year between updates? The competition has more models. At least, if you can expect a shorter life cycle, you don't have to feel hesitant about buying an older model because it is 8, 9, months old.

And could this also be why they didn't call the previous one the iPad 3?
 
I hope not thats what companies like HTC and motorola were doing. Look for example at the RAZR and RAZR Maxx. They just got a new lineup not even a year old.
