I see a lot of new M1 Max Metal benchmarks today, and all of them are around ~68,000

It makes me believe that this is actually the 16-inch model with 32-core GPU

Maybe they need to enable that High Power Mode on the 16-inch to actually get scores of ~90k.

Link to new Benchmarks.

I am a bit disappointed to be honest, already canceled my 14-inch 24-core order until we know more.

A few things to consider:

1. These are Geekbench scores which is better optimized for Nvidia rather than Apple and AMD.

2. As you pointed out, “high power” mode may not be enabled and it may not have been available to the reviewers at the time the test were done. Hopefully it’s available at launch.

3. Geekbench is just 1 tool. When reviews come out on Monday and we can see test results with other benchmark tools, the story may be a lot different.

4. Even if these scores are true, we are still getting an integrated graphics chip that is actually current with other high end laptops and still uses less power.

5. These could be for the 14” which has lower thermal thresholds.

IMO high power mode is probably required to get the near 3080m performance levels. I also do believe we will see better results with other benchmarks tools.

Why would you cancel your order instead of just waiting until you know more? They're not even shipping until Tuesday...

Edit because I accidentally said Friday.

always best to test it yourself, and not listen to anyone elses opinion. If it doesnt meet your expectations and requirements then send it back.

I will be making direct comparisons of the 14"M1 Max against my 16" I9 MBP 5600m - if it isnt much better then it is going back, as I have the benefit of bootcamp still with the Intel, which does have some use to me.

It's a hassle returning back items and it is best to watch or read reviews .

That's more better to do so you know by others who has the device

Not sure how it works for you, but I put it back in the box it was delivered in, add some tape and wait for FedEx to pick up. Not exactly hard, and no reviews comment on pro work - its all friggin games…….

Make sure to check Max Tech channel on youtube, they've bought all models, and they always review them with pro apps for photo and video editing, in addition to the usual benchmarks.

What if you don’t do photo and video editing……. no disrespect, but they are next to useless for me. I can buy my own models and review them myself and know exactly how they perform for my pro work….. a maxed M1 Max MBP is far less than the annual software subs we pay.

Well, you said no reviews comment on pro work, and I tried to be helpful and said that there are some that do just that, Max Tech does photo and video editing, some others do Blender and 3D editing etc.

Do whatever you want man IDC what you do or what you pay for your annual subs lol :D

It's easier to spend 30min reading people reviews rather then buying it, testing it yourself doing same tests as others and then returning it back finding out something negative u don't like that a quick Google would have provided you that same info
