And you'd think it would be worth it to keep users in their ecosystem

There is, I'm sure, some percentage of Mini users who will get something other than an iPhone at some point if nothing else "Mini" is ever offered. I know I'm in that camp

I flat out will not buy and use a phone device larger than the 13 Mini
Will...Not...Do it...

That’d be a great way to go if Android phones weren’t also getting bigger. The “no bigger than 13 mini” smartphones are now pretty much limited to niche Unihertz phones. I suppose you can give foldables like Galaxy Flip line a try too.

I bought both 12 mini and 13 mini at MSRP because I prefer smaller devices. Most of the public buying mini, though, were “settling” for a smaller screen because they were cheaper. I saw 13 mini being given away for 100 yen (just under a dollar) each in Japan as carrier sign-up promotion because they had so much excess stock. That’s a category better served by cheaper to build SE and I think Apple agreed. Very unfortunate.

Or the lack of pro features.

I had 12 mini and 13 mini, but would probably have gone 14 pro even if there was a 14 mini primarily for the camera.
I also had a 12 mini, and still have a 13 mini that I use as a backup/work phone. But ended up getting a 15 Pro last year. Would have probably gone with a “15 mini” if they made one.

I did really miss and appreciate getting back the telephoto lens, though. And I love the ProMotion display. It’s definitely noticeable whenever I use the mini how much smoother 120 Hz looks.

Every time I pick up that 13 mini, I still miss and prefer the mini’s size though. The 12 mini battery life was a little too low, IMO. But no major complaints about the battery life on the 13 mini. I run the 15 Pro with the 80% limit on, and it basically mirrors the 13 mini’s battery life.

The 15 Pro is still too large and too heavy, but the cellular modem of the 13 models is going to really show their age when 5G standalone starts showing up on AT&T and Verizon. Especially on AT&T, where it doesn’t support the 3.4 GHz “DoD” band. And I missed those Pro features. A 15 Pro mini with a telephoto lens instead of the ultrawide and a ProMotion display would’ve been the Goldilocks phone.

Garmin makes watches in three sizes so you can have a really huge, really small or normal sized screen on your wrist.

This must be great for Garmin users.

I have the aW6 (originally got it so I could be of help to my xGF, but I have only that, now).

Until we're in Dick Tracy Land, the whole SW things is probably lost on me ;)

All my out-and-about connectivity centers-around the iPhone 13-mini

O1H, more devices means more of a userbase for their services. Heck, the 9th gen iPad started at $330. An ipad, brand new, that cheap, was unheard of until a few years back.

OTOH, I can see the point another poster made that they now have to have multiple production lines, which digs into their profits. I guess Apple is willing to call the bluffs of you folks to see if you'll just suck it up and buy a "regular iPhone", or if you'll really leave the iOS ecosystem for Android, or some flipphone.

I still think if Apple can produce it profitably in smaller numbers, the iPhone in the 13 mini size could return. That size phone should have been the basis of the next iPhone SE.
