Type in terminal networkQuality and it should start a speed test to check internet speed.

No more using speedtest.net.

Wait, you mean I no longer need fancy high tech futuristic speed test button on my ready-to-go menu bar? Thank goodness Apple!
 
still I am interested to know which connecting point they are testing this on. Do they show up in a more detailed test display?
