This could help apple out if they make the iphone 4 low end, the 4s medium and the 5 the high end model apparently Al Gore did say phones in plural from what i read but that is just my opinion

IMO Apple is in a perfect position at this point to announce "iPhone 5" as "one more thing".

I really hope Apple doesn't slow-roll us with the iPhone 5 at the end of the keynote. Just give us the goods Apple! :(

I've downloaded all of Steve's keynotes since the original iPhone from 2007 and have been watching them over again lol. He really was an awesome speaker.

Oh, and for anyone else who is interested and didn't know already, Apple has all the keynotes from the first iPhone on their own Podcast channel.

Yup I really like his charisma.

You should watch the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates interview too. Although the interviewers REALLY sucked.

Considering I disagree with everything u just said, I will for sure save this post, so you have some words to eat come announcement day. :D

Put me on record as saying there will be a jaw dropping, completely redesigned iPhone 5. No way Apple is going to rest on the laurels of the iPhone 4, give it a spec bump and ride it out for another year. Ur crazy. If the only thing coming was a 4S, I believe we would have had it by now. And if it is true that Apple changed the release cycle to coincide with the fall ipod event, (which makes total sense) they knew full well that the "delay" would stir things up in the smartphone world. Every tech site on the web is anxious, speculating, searching for leaks, drumming up rumors, and talking almost daily about Apple and their next iPhone. Just for that reason alone, Apple would cause a lot of disappointment in the tech community by releasing another iPhone 4. Apple knows this. They may have only changed the release cycle, but it doing so they are also going to reward us BIG TIME for the extended wait. Apple is getting more attention & publicity then ever before because of this "delay". The eyes of the smartphone/tech world are all glued on Apple anxiously awaiting what's coming. And what's coming is not ony a spec bumped 4. Bet the house on it!

It may not be totally redesigned, I agree I am betting it is. It might be a iPhone 5 and have the same form factor with a larger screen and upgraded internals. That would be a iPhone 5. Also I see the glass back going away to make way for aluminum.

It doesn't make sense actually.
Apple doesn't name or create things for random reasons. The company has intense competition, i really don't understand what you're talking about. I believe you mean to say that Apple has created such a following, that enough people will buy their products regardless.

iPhone 7 = iPhone 10

There is something really wrong with this naming structure, and i will be shocked if Apple continues it. I can see them calling the next iPhone, the iPhone 5 or another name, but not 4S. That would imply that the iPhone 4 is slow..which it clearly is not.

They wouldn't miss the opportunity to do "iPhone X"

This sets up a keynote where they can introduce iOS 5, some iPods, and iPhone 4s. Just as everyone thinks it is over and 4s is all we are getting, "there is...one more thing..." - a redesigned iPhone 5.

Thoughts?

iOS5 has already been introduced earlier. If anything, the "one more thing..." will hopefully be that these new phones are LTE ready - meaning the feature will be active when the networks are ready to roll them out nationwide.

I'm not the least bit enamored with "one more thing".

That era is _over_

And Apple with Cook at the helm is in an exemplary position.

His high level of intellect, reasoning and stellar poise is about to be revealed for all to see. I'm thrilled that he's the future of Apple.

They are lucky to have him. Just wait and see.

This isn't the way Apple, or any other company traditionally does things. Bring out two products that compete against each other. It makes little sense to me for them to say "Hey, here's the new iPhone 4S..." "...And we're outdating it already by introducing the iPhone 5 a few minutes later!"

Android manafactures do that all the time. Samsung sells at least 10 android models all competing with each other. Plus a 4S and 5 won't necessarily be in competition the 4S will be a low end iPhone for the very basic "doesn't care about specs" user and the 5 will be for the guy that likes the latest and greatest. keep in mind apple have been selling 2 different versions of iPhone the last 2 generations.

I had a similar thought, Tim introduces the iPhone 4S, and no one is all that excited. Then he does the 'and one more thing', at which point Steve comes onto stage holding the iPhone 5.

For those saying 2 models is a bad idea, I disagree. I don't think they'd sell the 4S as a budget model, after all it'll be an upgrade from the 4. I think they might just position it slightly cheaper than the 4 is currently selling for. This will then allow them to price the 5 quite a bit higher than the current 4, maybe $80 - $100 more. Would be a good strategy to rinse every last $.

FYI, I'm swaying towards there only being a 4S and no 5, I hope I'm wrong.

Chronology of iPhone's history:

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4s

Simple actually. There won't be an all-new iPhone 5 this year, that's for certain... There is no need to invest in an all new design with more expensive components when people will just as likely stand in line to get a faster 4s. Not in the current msrketplace that offers Apple barely any competition at all.

The cheap, 3rd world countries model will be the 3GS at an "unbelievably low price"...

Save this post and check back in 2 weeks. You'll be surprised.

*Developing countries.

Although I think this is true. Why would apple spend on packaging and producing a new, cheaper iPhone and waste valuable resources in the process when they can simply market the current iPhone as the cost-effective version as they've been doing previously.

A slightly revamped version of the iPhone 4 to be released and the economically priced iPhone 4 to follow.

Just my 0.02 .

Yes. In fact the reason why there will be no announcement until October is because Tim is still working on his trademark phrase.

"We got another thing comin'!"

"Not so fast my friend!"

"How do you like dem Apples?"

I swear I almost spilled my tea on my desk at the office :D

I want to see Tim say, "The iPhone5 will be out... NOW!!"

The conference hall erupts with violent screams, a mad dash towards the exits. Laptops fly through the air, knocking out the dimmed light fixtures. People are crushed, babies are crying, a kid steals a homeless man's sandwich, all for the glory and honor of getting a hold of the new device.

...time for coffee.... ugh.

They should change it to this

"So how do you like them apples?..." crowd cheers..."well we have some more apples:apple::apple::apple:" bigger crowd cheer.
