My razr had this feature, why wouldn't a cutting edge smart phone?

I have installed the delete word tweak which works great, but only for deleting individual words.

It is a hassle to double tap, hit select all, then cut.

Couldn't they just make it so if you hit caps lock then backspace it clears all text?

Try shaking your phone side to side and clicking the undo typing option that comes up.... ( the shake has to be a decently quick side to side motion)

Can't you just hold on any part of the text, Select All and then backspace once? Works for me.

Yeah, I said in the op that is the quickest way to do it now but it's too cumbersome. It shouldn't take that many steps not to mention the delay waiting for the "select/select all/paste" menu to pop up

How much faster can it get? One second to hold, one second to tap Select All, less than one second to backspace.

I'm not arguing; I just don't know how much quicker it could be.

Did you try my method yet?

Going now to test on a memo...

Woo hoo! You win all the prizes. :D Lightning quick for clearing every bit of text. Also for Undo Paste, Undo Typing and Redo Paste. :) Brilliant.

Also tried on iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1) Works a charm there, too. How did I not know about this?

Sorry I meant to reply earlier, I disabled shake to undo. It constantly got triggered accidentally, far more often than I used it intentionally.

It's not a hassle to tap and hold, select all and hit the backspace key. It takes less than 2 seconds. Anything easier would be too easy and people would accidentally tap the one step "delete all" button you want and they would lose all their work.

What would be nice is an option in settings to allow you to adjust/speed up the delay.

I'm so surprised that it hasn't been implemented already?

Would speed workflow up no end ...

When you do it all the time yes, it is a huge hassle. It could and should be much easier to do being such a commonly used function.

And no, if implemented the way I described people would not accidentally tap it. You would have to hit shift twice activating caps lock, then hit backspace. Much quicker and easier, but just difficult enough not to accidentally activate. Very simple really.

just shake the phone

Lol did you not read the rest of this thread? I disabled the shake to undo function, it's incredibly annoying I always accidentally activated it

if you tap on it fast.. 3 or 4 click i think. it will select all text (not just that word with the double tap) . then just hit the backspace.

*edit its four, real fast.

how did your last phone do it?

I disabled that because it constantly popped up when I didn't want it to way more often than I used it

That's still three steps, just like the method we currently have. I wouldn't think it would go from a huge hassle to no hassle at all when it only saves milliseconds.

No, waiting for the menu and having to carefully click the middle button is much harder.

You're begging for an easy method. It's provided, but you disabled it. You want to find something wrong. Yes, you can.

yawn.
