Great news. Looks like a secure High Sierra still lives -- for a little while more.
 
just now installed Security Update 2020-006 from the App Store on my unsupported Mac Pro 3,1 running High Sierra.
Install was fast and painless, now to test it out for a few days...

Did you get it from the developer portal or the regular update system?
I have only seen it as a developer beta at this time.
 
Security Update 2020-006 showed up for me in App Store and installed without drama on High Sierra

Poor Safari still stuck on version 13 though… 😥

In my case I checked the App Store and it showed updates available.
Clicked on Install all" and the rest was easy. :)

Does anyone have the "sw.cdn. .......... " direct download link for this update? it is STILL not on the Apple Downloads page ..... thanks

Yes, I misread the post. My mistake.

Anyway, the update showed up in the app store, and I'm running an unsupported Mac.

That means one can install the Security Update 2020-006 (that is only available via the App Store) just like that, even for an unsupported Mac ?

I would be glad to know that. Had asked already in the thread on running High Sierra on unsupported Macs but did not receive any answer there ...

For app store update installs to work without errors on an unsupported system you need to be sure your boot drive is APFS formatted.

Also, as long as you have a backup you can make a mistake without worry. Trying is learning. Don't do yourself the disservice of waiting to be spoon fed an answer when you can figure it out easily with a try or two.
 
I used a USB stick the other day to make a printer firmware downgrade for my Xerox printer. Strangely, I could only see APFS formatting methods. No journaled, no MS-DOS FAT or whatsoever. I needed to go to a MacbookPro with OS X Sierra to get the job done because my OS X High Sierra MacbookPro did only indicate APFS formatting methods for the same USB stick.

Strange.

Hmm, I just installed the 2020-005 about a week ago but I haven't seen the 006 in App Store.

Oh okay, thanks. I wonder why it's not in the App Store, taken the importance of security updates actually getting through to users.

And um, what's the talk about unsupported Macs? Mine is a late 2009 2 x 2,4 Ghz 6-core Mac Pro that's EFI flashed to 5,1. A bit concerned before installing anything outside of App Store because I know that it's not current.

The 2020-006 update installed for me on 2 machines, a 2008 macpro3,1 running High Sierra and a 2009 4,1->5,1 running Mojave, in each case without any issues.
But, as the saying goes YMMV :eek:

Also got it from App Store without problem.

Safari is retiring on my system now since it is stuck on 13.x. I saw that 14.x is not just about added functionality but also security updates that 13.x never received.

So alternative supported browsers will be in focus now.
