Explain: What's the point of having 2 lines of the same size laptops
 This whole thread is full of posts explaining this very thing.

Explain: Why are there 3 different sizes of drinks at Mickey-D's?

I think folks are just taking you to task about your "next generation" comment which implies like in 6 months the Pro line will die.

Or for that matter why does Honda, Nissan and Toyota make the same size cars under the Accura, Infiniti and Lexus badges. There is more to it than just 2 lines of the same size product and choice is always a good thing for those who need it or want it.

I would guess that many people don't understand the performance difference. Naturally (like me) they watch youtube clips of the air vs pro and think, Wow the air is faster than the 2010, it also boots faster than the 2011!

Assuming this its safe to think that one will replace the other as it makes the pro 'redundant' ... supposedly.

I think it's obvious laptops are always headed towards the lightest, slimmest form factor possible. That's no surprise, this is technology.

But I doubt we're there with Pro's. The Air form factor is too small to accomodate the heat from dedicated GPU's right now. Apple might slim down the Pro form factor in the next version, but I doubt they can reach Air proportions yet.

And the OP is overrating the ubiquitousness of fast, wireless connections. As if music files are the only hurdle to cloud computing...What about actual large files? Video editing for example? And what do you do when you actually travel? Tons of hotels still charge an arm and a leg for a night of wireless access. And they're still pretty slow. Do a bit of traveling and/or work with sizable files OP and you'll see it doesn't work out just yet.

Cheaper SSD's will make thinner laptops possible before we can do without large storage.

This guy's thinking too far down the road. Though it may eventually come, this guy shouldn't be lurking in the Pro market. Get an Air you dope.

In all honesty I don't even see the worth of 30 seconds to type something to this noob.

^ LOL ^. Totally agreed. I don't think Apple will be taking this direction for a LONG time if they even do. Especially with all these advances in faster HD's and everything. The OP was probably high or something when he wrote this, I would just disregard it completely haha.

He's Krazy Bill after all.

So that he can learn? How did you get to where you are now, knowledge-wise? From the people not like you who, even though you were a noob, passed on some knowledge anyway.

That's half what a forum like this is about. Everyone was a noob at some point in their lives, including you.

Since when did noobs prophesy?

Hmm, I really doubt that. MBP is designed as portable workstation for pros, while Air for common users. Independent vc and high-power cpu is not for present possible for Air's volume. They cannot replace each other.

It really makes no sense to create a "full feature" laptop anymore, and by that I mean a large device. We'll get rid of the CD drive once and for all, freeing up a lot of room, and use the next gen ATI video card and intel processors.

Aren't you the guy who was claiming laptops had been the same for years now and that they had stopped "evolving"?
