I get ingrown toenails on my big toes every now and then. It used to be kinda a PITA but my toes have grown calluses around my toenails so ingrown toenails don't hurt anymore and are very easy for me to take care of.

Lethal

It could very well be an ingrown toenail. Is the toe very swollen in the area?
I suffer from this myself. I went to my G.P and he apparently took out the root of the nail. It grew back however so now I end up conducting minor surgery on myself whenever it gets bad. Normally just sterilise a swiss army scissors and cut out the offending section of the nail. Quite often some pus is ejected but after that I've relief for a good few weeks. Tis been a chronic problem for me tho so don't know if its advisable in your case.

Assuming the whole toe isn't inflammed and its just tender over the area of possible nail ingrowth, i'd say thats your most likely diagnosis.

I have almost that exact same thing, and I was beginning to get worried. It hurts soooo bad.:( Both my big toes are both swollen really bad and one is red and the other is almost purple and the skin on both toes is falling off so its like raw or something. (gross I know). Im not sure if it is just that I have ingrown toe nails in both of my toes or what...I've had this for a little over a month, I've tried so many things like soaking them in alcohol, peroxide, I wrap them everyday with gouze and tape with neosporon, I have dug at them but I think that just makes them worse. Nothing has worked so I guess I just need to go to a doctor right? but I dont want to have to pay so much money for this. :( So what if it is inflammed??? Because it definitely is.

Methinks talking to a doctor would be a lot more effective than signing up at MacRumors to ask us about it.

lol That's what I was thinkin. I was like wow, who brought up my post from more than a year ago? I check out the profile and it's his/her first post :) Welcome to the Mac Community!

But anyways, mine went away after a while I think. It must not have been too long since I don't really remember this thread.

you know you can have a surgery so it doesn't grow back right? It is when they take out the matrix and also burn away any remnants of the matrix.

I know this procedure because well I have had ingrown nail surgery like 8 times.

Thankfully none in about 5 years.

Ditto here. After frequent ingrown nails on one of my feet, I had that surgery done on that foot and none since. Relatively painless surgery. Took about 20 minutes, my foot was completely numb, and I only needed about 1 day off my foot for recovery.

You definitely need to see a doctor, because it sounds like the toes are severely infected. My son gets these from time to time, and it's always a fight with him to 1) get him to tell me he has one, and 2) let me touch them at all to help.

The doctor will also tell you to soak your feet in hot water with Epsom salts or an antibacterial soap, in addition to giving you antibiotics. The water should be as hot as you can stand it (without burning, obviously). Soak for about 15-20 minutes, each foot. This will help soften up the skin around the nails. You may also be directed to lift up the nail, and to push the skin back from around the infected area. We've had to put a bit of gauze and antibiotic ointment under the nail, to encourage it to stay out of the skin. It hurts like crazy, which is why my son hates to even tell me when he gets one.

So, go to a doctor, and get some antibiotics! If you don't you could have permanent damage to your toes or feet. Call your doctor right away, and try to get into the office today!

SamIchi, are you still there . . . I just found this!

It started hurtin' last night. I thought it'd go away after I goto sleep. I woke up and it still hurt. It's only on the left side of the toe near the nail. Anyone have an idea of what this might be?

I looked up ingrown toenail, but it doesn't seem to be that, cause it's not near the front of the nail, i dunno. Physically there is nuthin' out of the norm except redness. I hope it goes away.

SamIchi -- I just found your post, because I was researching on-line for my issue. I went to the doctor on Monday and he didn't see anything wrong. It appears to be worse at night. I have pain aroung the inner tip of both big toes, aruond the tip and down the side of the nail bed. There's no readness, no tenderness, no discoloration, etc., anywhere else on the toe. Did you find an anwser to your problem? I also don't have ingrown toenaile issues. HELP!

This is a Mac related forum and the thread is 5 years old. I'd recommend you find a forum relating to feet or foot fetishes for your answer.
