apple intelligence always coming soon in the next update and the update after
That’s so you keep updating your iOS software with every update.
Because there is nothing stopping Apple for example having more or less having everything ready for when the os gets released every September

I am getting very concerned about Apple's speed of innovation. Compared to how fast other companies are moving, Apple is getting behind. Seems like their only focus is to sell iPhones and optimize revenue on iphones and storage prices, instead of breaking some barriers with new techonology. It does not feel so fresh any more. When they try new things, they fail, ie. Apple Car, Vision Pro, etc. I think it is time for a new CEO with fresh energy and ideas.
The problem that Apple have got is they don’t want to take a chance & launch something that’s not really tested for example the watch is a safe product.
That’s why they are one of the last companies to implement AI in there software.

Apple Intelligence is the first service of Apple that I detest. This entire thing is one big yawn fest.
That’s because most people don’t think they need it or want it.
But going forward when people start getting new iPhones then Apple intelligence is on automatically & most won’t switch it off
So as the os gets updated then people will get used to these features as they get added automatically. That’s also one of the reasons they are dragging Apple intelligence out with every update to get people to keep updating there iOS device’s

I couldn’t agree more. Apple completely missed the boat on AI, and it’s beyond embarrassing at this point. While companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google have been reshaping the tech landscape with groundbreaking AI advancements, Apple has been busy patting itself on the back for slightly thinner bezels and iterative camera upgrades.

Siri is a joke compared to modern AI models, and it’s painfully obvious that Apple has been asleep at the wheel when it comes to real innovation. They’ve spent years coasting on their hardware dominance and walled-garden ecosystem, assuming that would be enough. Meanwhile, their competitors have been defining the future of AI-powered computing.

The frustrating part is that Apple could have led in this space. They have the resources, the talent, and the massive user base to create something revolutionary on-device AI that actually works, privacy-focused models that outperform cloud-based systems, or even an AI-driven OS that redefines human-computer interaction. But instead of setting the standard, they’re now in a position where they have to play catch-up

At this rate, Apple risks becoming the BlackBerry of AI. If they don’t pivot aggressively, and fast, they’re going to find themselves in a world where AI-driven experiences define the next era of computing, and Apple is just the company still bragging about how many shades of titanium they offer. Sigh. I miss the Apple of the old days.

ha. I was a about to comment the same.

Apple Inteligence rollout has been glacial - im surprised, and at this rate all the promised features announced in June 2024 at WWDC wont be here before the next WWDC.

Big problem is Siri 2.0 - thats the element that most people will actively use and want but of course Amazon have beaten them to the punch with Alexa 2 rolling out in the next few weeks giving the sort of functionality that people seem to want rather than gimmicky used-once image generation tools.

A potentially useful addition with the onboard LLM if it has vision capabilities would be for it to auto name documents you scan. I mean I don't think we even need an LLM for that per se as we have that capability in a few apps already based on pulling the first line of OCR out automatically.

On macOS though auto naming screenshots based on what the content is would be a good use of AI. There is an app that does it using OpenAI's API so having an option that can do it privately and for free could be useful.

I've found a mild use for genmoji too. In Notes I like to make important notes stand out a bit by using an emokji marker - I can now use a genmoji that better conveys the content of the note, some of them have been quite useful, especially where there wasn't an applicable or good enough emoji to use before.

I must be one of the very few who couldn’t care less about Apple Intelligence and AI. Certainly the public face of AI is all the sloppy crap all over Youtube and social media.

I have Apple Intelligence turned off on my devices. I simply see no genuine useful purpose to it.
You are not alone. I rolled the laptop back to Sonoma to get rid of the Augmented Idiocy, and recovered a lot more storage space than I expected. I'll wait a year and see if Apple can get its act together then decide whether to upgrade.

The iPad has an A13 and is immune to AI.

While I'm absolutely sure AI and Apple Intelligence will ultimately work out to be just fine...

I had priority notifications turned on in a previous developer beta, and the first thing it did was show me all of the spam messages that were asking for Immediate! Attention! Now! Send money to the African Prince! So on and so forth.

It was of course a complete mess and it was yanked within a day if not hours. The idea that Apple somehow forgot to make sure the messages cleared the spam filter first before evaluating them for priority was disappointing to say the least.

Hopefully they've figured this out by now.

In the end, the best addition to iOS 18 were the springboard upgrades, and not Apple Intelligence. But the real reason that I am replying to you is to complement your New Glarus Brewing profile photo. I live within an hour of New Glarus.

Same. I took notes during the WWDC announcement and again during the iPhone 16 release. All through the Apple Intelligence part of each I have each feature they talked about listed. After every one is either NO! or F*** NO! There is simply nothing that I want and much that I specifically by name and function do NOT want my system doing.

Let's assume that Apple has a meaningful ability to execute large and complex projects. At some point, I wonder if the slow feature drip and the non-forum-satisfying quality is the point of their strategy. Gen AI stuff is all flash and little substance and while who knows how long the tail is, it has zero actual value so delivering nothing but marketing something makes some sense.

It’s clear Apple is building more than an Image Generator and emoji generator. The underlying infrastructure they’re building shows that they have much larger plans.

Like foldable phones, they won’t be the first, and some won’t get it.

Steve Jobs would have fired everybody responsible for the slipping date. How embarrassing, selling a new phone that doesn't do what you said it would....6 months later. Jobs is spinning in his grave so fast, you could power California.

18.4 will be perfect for the iPhone 16 that was built for Apple Intelligence... Maybe by the fall they might have it ready so they can say the exact same thing for iPhone 17 - 'Built for Apple Intelligence'
I'm beginning to feel like Apple Intelligence is just some blonde broad off the street.
