As the title says. I have been watching all these threads about the new se and I am happy for those who went for it and happy with it. However going to stay with my XR.

Owning an XR I have been tempted myself to sell the XR and get the SE. However then I think of what I will be missing.

I will be missing the better battery on the XR.

I will be missing the screen size as I use my XR as my only computing device ( as I don’t have a MacBook or iPad etc)

I also don’t think I would notice the difference between the a12 chip and the a13 chip. If the chips do have a noticeable difference then it will be minor in my honest opinion.

I would also end up paying extra if I sold my XR which is 256gig and went for the same gig in the SE. I am eligible to upgrade in Dec 2020. So will wait till then.

I mean yes a smaller iPhone would be nice if I had an iPad or other device to do my other computing needs.

However I know I would miss Face ID. Yes it dosent work with a mask but I have my Apple Watch for Apple Pay.

I have also been used to the size and weight of the XR since Jan 2019 so that doesn’t bother me either.

I do know that my next iPhone would be lcd screen as I have tried oled and had headaches and eye strains. So if a new iPhone does come out this year with the next chip and it’s lcd I will go for that then. if it’s the same size or bigger than the XR I may consider downgrading size then. At least then I won’t have been paying for the XR anymore. And I may get the SE then as i would probably have an additional device like an iPad by then.

Thought I share my views here.

I think if anyone uses a phone as their only computing device, then they should get a decent one for sure. I do agree about thinking of getting an SE though. Trying to resist...think I'd have buyers remorse if/when the 5.4" 12 comes out.

There is no point at all, in your case, in switching to the SE from the Xʀ. You say you are okay with the size. You say you prefer the design. You say you prefer Face ID. All 4.7-inch iPhones’ battery life seem the same. I got half of the Xʀ’s battery life on a 6s on iOS 9 (original version), so you would be halving your battery life.

Chipset? From the A12 to the A13? That’s the only advantage you mention, and it isn’t relevant. There’s not enough difference. Seems like a no brainer to me, in your case, there’s no point in making that switch. The only case in which it would make sense is if you didn’t care about the battery life, and ever since you got the Xʀ you thought: “This is too big, I don’t like the design and prefer Touch ID, and I’m okay with the 4.7-inch battery life, which is around half.”

If you fancy a smaller phone better off waiting another 5 month for the rumoured 5.4 inch iPhone 12.

Most likely have Face ID night mode ultra wide better battery life and much more.

A few of my friends have the XR it's still a very good phone.

I reckon you'd be downgrading if you went from XR to SE.

You won't even notice a difference between the A12 and A13 chipset.

Similar situation here, but the XR isn't my only computing device. Traded my 6 in for XR when trade in values were bumped up at one point. Have never liked the XR mainly because of its size - just too big for me. Very tempted by new SE, but trying to wait for 5.4" 12. I am by no means a heavy user - phone, text, web browsing, a few pictures, songs, and apps - so perhaps the 12 will be more than I need - if we had a good idea of pricing for the 5.4", my decision might be easier.

I thought that I'm only one :D I have 11 but I thought about XS because of size - but if you want a compact device XS/11 Pro is still heavy/big - and SE... so bezels, battery, less functions than 11... So 5,4" 12 will be a super sweet spot without losing functions and modern design a price probably start from 699... :D

I would have buyers remorse too. If I had a second device like an iPad I think even then I would wait out till the next iPhone arrives. As again the biggest issue for me would be battery if I went for the se. I need a good battery which I already have for all my computing needs on my iPhone.

A downgrade it would be for sure. That’s what I been thinking and know for sure. Especially when it comes to my current use of an iPhone.

Ever since I had the xr I never mentioned those things. I came from an iPhone 7 and I knew exactly why I was going for the xr. The lcd screen, price at the time and Face ID. Plus going from the 7 to the xr Is what I felt was a proper upgrade which it was for me. Yes I do have times where I think gee wouldn’t it be nice to use a phone one handed. However I am used to using both hands when it comes to typing and I do have the reachability feature which comes in handy.

I have another line that my wife uses. My 7 broke and I bought a certified preowned xs max from my carrier, for about half price because I like money. I just looked 5 minutes ago at the price of a 128gb se and it is 160 less than I paid for my xsm 256. It’s cheap in a sense, but here in Canada it is not that cheap.. I would rather pay a little more for something better. I will probably wait for the 12S because outside of the 7, I’ve only owned S models 😄

Then I think you have your answer.

Purchasing a new piece of tech is one of the little thrills in life. One's phone is an ever-present gadget for most of us, so getting a brand new one has the promise of an improvement that touches most of our day. It's easy to get pulled in to the enthusiasm people are feeling when they're treating themselves to a new [phone || tablet || laptop || watch || etc.] and think, "I want some of that, too!", even if, for a moment, you forget about the rational logic that leads you to buy or not to buy.

I think the key here is that the Xr is your only computing device at the moment. If I were in that situation, I’d want the biggest screen I could get.

I do know that my next iPhone would be lcd screen as I have tried oled and had headaches and eye strains. So if a new iPhone does come out this year with the next chip and it’s lcd I will go for that then.
All iPhones coming later this year are rumored to be oled.

I’m a fan of the se but why even get something that will have less battery life, smaller screen? Unless Touch ID was so important but damn I’m don’t get it. Step back.

hey decided not going for the SE now.

surely they must have an LCD option for those who suffer from eye strain and headaches with OLED. If what your saying is true then I would probably just stay with my XR.

OLED is rumored to be on all iphone 12. I think the only 2020 phone with lcd will be the SE.

I think the only reason I can think of to move from a 5.8” or larger iPhone (basically 8+ or later) to the SE Would be size. Camera/RAM is either a mostly lateral move or downgrade. A13 is faster yes but not for most people’s daily use. One won’t save much money by selling it and buying a new SE.

so in your case seems a no-brainer to keep the XR. For 7 and older users, I can see a case for it though.

Now if Apple releases a future 2021 or later SE with 4.7”, 4-6 GB RAM, much-improved cameras, and the latest SoC for $399, I’d probably buy it as an upgrade to my XR.
