They don't want or need to change the design (I think)

Look at the Samsung Galaxy S3. Samsung liked the design so much that they used it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. If a design is SO good that millions of people like it then why change it?

    Thoughts? :)

Its because they are part of the Galaxy S3 line. The S3 comes out, then they coke out with the carrier versions of the flagship, and eventually they will come out with modified versions, I.e. the Galaxy Note 2

    Coke out? Freudian slip?

I think those that desire a drastic change with every phone release don't understand basic design philosophy. Oi was a good start but looking at it now, when compared to the 4/4s design it's quite unattractive IMHO. On it's own it's a great looking device. I won't even go into the 3/3gs design I thought that design was unattractive when it was released and continue to think so today. For me, if the rumored design is true the looks run down goes i5, 4s, Oi, 3gs.
Design changes while keeping the "lines" of past devices is the way to go. Like i5, it's basic shape is the same while totally changing the look when compared to the 4s design which I felt was the best looking iPhone by far.

Yeah, but I assure the look will differ next year for both lines.

This is nothing more than Apple trying to force their will onto us.

It's customary in the Cell Phone industry to introduce a NEW LOOKING model each year and now Apple is trying to change that too.

Guess what, I've already switched to Android... who cares about the 12th.

This is actually the most worry-free lauch I've ever experienced and guess what else... I LIKE IT that way!!!

    They CAN'T change it.

They can't do much more due to patents and other OS similarities. They can't do tiles because of WP, they can't do widgets because of Android, etc.

They even added icons to Mac OS X with launchpad, so it's definitely the direction they are going for the next year's, so don't expect any changes. That why I went to Android.

I think the OP was thinking more in terms of hardware, but honestly, both hardware and software need a facelift

No, they don't need to change the hardware or the software. That's my point.

...you do realize that not even a full financial quarter passed between both phones, don't you? Of course you don't. Obviously, Samsung always intended for both phones to look the same. They're synced up. Next year, Samsung will roll out the GS4 and it will look closer to the GS2 because quite frankly, the GS3 is a monstrosity.

Also, Apple knows they don't have to change anything because they have a captive audience. They could coast on updates like this year for a decade and iPhone users will applaud whatever they do.

However, the advanced users will leave the iPhone, as many have done here at Macrumors, and many more will follow when the iPhone 5 is revealed in 33 hours. It will be catastrophically damaging to a lot of people's psyches when the same phone they've seen for months becomes reality, and they won't know what to do...

Oh, i didn't know they were ''related''. Sorry. :)

Let them leave then. I really don't care if they want to change their phone. Android has never been my taste, it just looks awful.

I'm hardly biased towards any product. Apple lost me this year quite easily. Android would lose me just as easily should it be surpassed in form and function.
