What's up with that? I'm so used to using the gesture for navigating back while in Finder and they got rid of that. Now I have to click on the back button if I want to go back.

it is still there, but for me it works on and off. sometimes i need to do a 4 finger swipe between spaces for it to return so i can swipe for finder.

This can be fixed in the settings. If you go into trackpad setting and change swipe between pages to "swipe with three fingers" the gestures in finder work again.
