and when i say macbooks, im referring to the white ones since aluminum ones are apparently "pro" now. why dont they just call the imac the imac pro now too? same thing. but back to my topic, how are they going to sell macbooks now, 99% of everyone will opt for the "pro" for $200 more and so many more features...

exactly. The White MB isn't looking so hot but if you can't scrape up that extra 200 bucks then the plastic MB is what you need.

It isn't "just $200" for everyone. The same people who bought the white MacBook before are going to continue buying the white MacBook. (I don't mean exact same people buying more than one... :D )

If anything, I'm the one with the collectors item. I got the 2.4ghz white macbook processor before they downgraded it - then upgraded it. But I still have the X3100 graphics.

That means I have a macbook semi-pro. :D

Quite true that based on CPU performance the older higher clocked processors still do hold their own.

Core 2 Duo hasn't changed much over the past 2 years.

I was saying just this in another thread...

$200 difference and a side by side comparison should be a no brainer decision for most people!
Aluminum over plastic would be worth the 200 to most people...
I think we will see the end of the WhiteBoy pretty soon.

THANK YOU!! you just made my day, i've been feeling bad about the fact that i have a unibody macbook which is now a "pro" all day, but thanks to your comment i dont anymore. ill upgrade it when there's a better processor with better performance, otherwise my computer is pretty much the same as the "MBP", and i cant believe they STILL dont give 4gb ram standard

and then replace it with what? they can't use aluminum, because then they will have to call it a pro too...hahahaha i think they're digging themselves in a hole with this one...

and then replace it with what?

Nothing... Its what they call "end of life"
That doesnt mean the product has to be replaced but if you think about it, it pretty much has been replace by the low end 13" MacBook "Pro"
I see NO reason to continue to sell the White MB

This is going to be relevant you your interests then.

but then there will only be a macbook pro, which wont make much sense. i think this whole move was stupid because now there is no difference between the pro and non pro lines, that barrier is gone.

Macbook is going away

Just a theory, but they had to rebrand the 13" aluminum a Macbook Pro, because the new tablet computer coming out this fall will be a derivation of Macbook as well and at that time the white macbook will just go away. Maybe something like Macbook Go and Macbook Pro line of laptops? Make sense to me...

They should make it $899 instead.

I see why Apple wants to break the psychological $1000 barrier, but... don't break it by 1¢.

And, maybe, just maybe, Apple is clearing out the MacBook name for the rumored netbook-type device.

Performance wise you're shaving seconds off for more money.

You get the nice case too but then again you can get AppleCare for $150 off of eBay for the MacBook.

The older Unibody MacBook is still going to fall in under that coverage. Apple is now charging the MACBOOK PRO price on the former Unibody MacBook for AppleCare.

hows that?
Processor Geekbench scores pitting the P7xxx series vs. the older T7xxx one.

Honestly right now, what is the only difference!? 3 letters! P R O

If there was NO regular MacBook, people will just except the fact that the "MacBook Pro" is Apples line of notebooks... If you saw some new computer called xxxxxPro, your not immediately going to say "OH MY GOD, where is the regular version!?!?" ;)
ya know what i mean?

i get what you're saying, but thats always how its worked with apple. there was always a consumer line and a pro line, and thats going to change now. soon they're going to do something with the desktops..

Yeah, i pretty much feel better about this whole thing after starting this thread...

Maybe. But adding the "Pro" moniker to a product is a pretty common way to distinguish it from its lesser and more lowly siblings. Just look at all the freaking software titles that do this.

I dont think they will there is still broke ppl that want a apple notebook and theyll go for the cheaper whitebook
