iPod touch is much lighter and thinner still, it's not an issue. They'd have to get to the thickness of a credit card before structural integrity and flexing would be an issue.

A pipe by definition is a hollow cylinder. There is no such thing as a square pipe.

It was just a simple metaphor to explain my point, the semantics are not exactly relevant. It's not hard to imagine what a square pipe would be if there was such a thing and that it would bend more easily than a "real" cylinder pipe.

My point still stands that the basic geometry of the iphone 6 shape makes it much harder to bend than the squared sides of the 5/5S. It's simple geometry 101.

Maybe I'm missing the obvious here but if you're literally talking about sitting ON the iphone, then yes that's stupid. But lots of people may carry it around in their back pockets then get in the car to drive, not sitting directly on the phone but pushing up against it with the round shape of butt being the issue, if that makes sense. So is that stupid? Well yes I guess if you think about how thin the new iphones are. I have a 4s and have been able to do this countless times with no issues but it's a tank compared to these new ones.

My son has an ipod touch. Can't remember when we got it for him but it very well may have been one of the first (couple of years old?). Anyway it was carried in a form-fitting fanny pack on an airplane and the next day or so we realized it was noticeably warped. Googling shows this is a common issue and it's funny that so many people are surprised by this. Yeah that was probably stupid of me - but I also may have wanted to break it, on some level. ;) I get really tired of the constant video game playing. He can still use it just fine though. It just looks ridiculous.

So, I ordered the 5.5" and am indeed wondering whether it's made better than that ipod touch! Googling shows that lots of people with iphone 5's (not sure if 5s's or which one) have the same issue - I've seen lots of pics and one or two youtube videos - so it's not just an ipod touch issue - it's also the phones.

Anyone know if the new phones might be made of something tougher? Sorry if that's already been addressed... I skimmed the past comments but didn't see anything about knowledge of a material less prone to warping or bending.

I don't care. I have Applecare. It it bends the first time, they replace it. If it bends the second time, they replace it. If it bends the third time, they dance around me and call me an idiot.

Actually most people said Apple wouldn't replace bent phones.

Explain to us how you managed to bend it?

Stop by a Best Buy some time.

Go check out the Galaxy S5 phones that they have tethered into some contraption on the display. It basically bends the phone in the middle a couple of mm over time because of how the lock on it works. I looked at one and thought the S5 was one of the curved screen phones. I asked the Samsung rep if it was a curved screen phone, and the reply of "No" actually made me :eek::eek:.

I don't see the phone getting bent. Broken screen? Sure. But I've never seen a bent phone.

Friend of mine bent his 5S. We still laugh about it. :)

If you don't want to bend your phone, don't sit on it.

It does. Accidental damage would include everything. Running it over with your car. Sitting on it. Anything. If you sit on it, and it bends, that's accidental damage.

"AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage"

"Bend gate"

Bent iPhone. It bent itself. It was sitting on the table, counter, in my car, pocket and it bent!! How, why??? Damn you Apple! My phone is defective!!!! Apple needs to be sued for my stupidity and fat butt!!

Yeah, here it comes.

with these new thinner phones especially the iphone 6+ with a 5.5 inch screen, I wonder how many customers or iPhone owners are going to try and get their phone replaced because it's bent.? I can just see it now, I bent my iPhone! this is definitely an exciting launch for sure, and I think I might do something that I've never done before, which is go sit in line at an AT&T store overnight to try and get me a 6 plus. the only reason that I'm considering this is because I'll be on vacation.

Lol, I remember this guy in the thread below. Phone bent out of nowhere! (He posted pics if you scroll down)

He said they replaced it, so maybe they thought it could be the battery?

Think this is why I didn't go for the much taller iPhone 6 Plus due to me wearing slim fit jeans.

I'd rather not bend the phone when sitting down or squatting.

will we hear the famous line?

is that an iphone 6+ in your pocket....or are you just happy to see me?

blah blah blah back pocket blah blah blah

I have kept my iPhone 5 in my back pocket for 2 years now, no issues. However, I take more care than the average person.

This. And probably before the first weekend is over (6 is released on a Friday, so Bentgate will happen in one of those 3 days)!

I just don't understand why people keep talking about sitting on it. I don't think anyone's sitting on it - they're just keeping it in yeah that back pocket and most people's butts aren't accommodatingly flat! :D

My 4s never warped because it's so dang thick!

I'm also wondering if those who've never had warping issues were using a good sturdy case and if so, what kind. Hoping to find a good one to prevent this issue if at all possible. I mean sure it's possible to simply NEVER have your iphone in your pocket or NEVER bend when wearing it in your pocket, because you're one who "takes really good care of your phone" but that seems impractical. Not sure what case material would be helpful that way though since it seems most cases will flex a little.
