That's actually my big problem with Reminders. Complete something on one device and watch reminders for it pop up on every other device regardless. It's weird, because you can read something in Messages on your Mac and the moment you do so, the notification will disappear on your phone, or vice versa. Not so with Reminders. While changes are synced, the reminders for it don't seem very smart.
I've actually wondered if that was a bug and just assumed it wasn't worth messing with. A feature, huh. Glad to know it's at least working, even if I don't care for it or follow the logic.

Also, thanks for the rundown of pros and cons for OF and Things. I REALLY need to get a GTD, but as with every other area in my life, I get overwhelmed looking at all the options. I'm afraid of getting buried with yet another app to regularly track. Things may be the ticket. Now, if I could just make that decision... ;)

I wish all developers spend the time to polish their apps as CulturedCode is doing.

The app is not perfect feature-wise, I still want a dedicated Waiting list, an easy way to review all my projects instead of "looking at" my projects list and open the projects one by one to see if I have a next action inside, I still want sequential projects like OmniFocus and just give me the option to change the icon. But, more importantly, the app is Bug Free which is how every productivity app should be.

Could never understand why people use Things when OmniFocus exists.

Things looks perfectly nice but OF towers over the productivity niche. It has long been one of the "must-have" arguments for using a Mac, and no other app scales as smoothly as your needs grow.
I used Omnifocus for years and it's great for people who need the power, but it's just too much for me. I've been in Things for nearly five years and it's the absolute sweet spot between power and simplicity. There are a couple of features I miss in Things - I really want deeper calendar integration with individual tasks - but it looks and feels good, and works beautifully.

There's your answer. An elegant sufficiency.

these guys have the right mindset. I very much prefer a one time payment over a subscription model, EVEN if it costs me more in the long run.

Indeed the Things! team does have the right mindset. Their also usually first to update their apps very quickly and polished whenever a new platform comes out or major new OS implementation. I find them as the benchmark for enthusiasm and deployment amongst developers - not Adobe or similarly big names.

Give this app is essentially identical across iPad OS and macOS, I can’t for the life of me understand why they’re charging $40 more for a dedicated Mac App.
I thought that at first but the apps are so good, so thoughfully designed, to me they’re worth every penny. If it keeps this small software company going and improving their product I’m happy to support it. As with others on this thread, I’d rather pay once than for an endless subscription.

The first step is getting everything written down, so it gets out of your head and recorded in a central place. Once I started doing that and really committed to doing it every time some new task or reminder arose, it did wonders: less stress, more control, better sleep, more time to focus on other things. You can do it!

Pretty sure Things and OmniFocus offer trial versions. Definitely worth trying both!

I'm considering purchasing Things on Mac or iPadOS, but can't justify both at the moment. With the new MacBook Pro being able to run iPad apps, does it make sense to purchase the iPad version and just use that on my Mac?
