How about a keyboard shortcut to move stuff in the finder. Like how cut works in Windows Explorer. I know there have been huge debates on the forums about the naming of the feature, but I just want a way to move a file quickly without using spring folders, or having to folder open (I have a 12" PB, not a lot of screen space).

Exactly! My number one request - cut and paste of files in finder, I like spring folders but seldom use them and find them a bit useless and unwieldily if I say want to move something from one folder up to its parent folder. I find it strange (and unintuitive) that copy and paste is system wide and works in finder but they chose not to implement cut.

The only thing I'd like is the ability to rename/delete files from the Open/Save dialogues. I realise there are big GUI guidelines/usability/safety of data issues with this but I do find it useful in Windows.

Yes! I love this feature.

A paint program.

I will agree that I think Window's explorer is superior to Mac's finder in many ways.

When the window comes up to "save, don't save, or cancel", I'd like to be able to use the arrow key to cycle through the selections. It's so stupid that you can't do that in OS X.

If it's any help, you can use keyboard shortcuts instead. Command D doesn't save and Command . cancels.

actually you don't even need to type command - you can hit escape to cancel, just hit 'd' for don't save, return for save.

Being able to rename a file by right clicking.
seems to me it is a lot easier to just hit return to rename a file than to go through the trouble of right clicking and navigating a contextual menu. Some would argue that it is too easy, and is triggered by accident.

I like windows fax and picture viewer. I like the fact that WMP files always work on windows. Another thing that would be nice is if, like XP, OS X could scale down some of it's fancy graphical stuff to suit slower computers.

Ablity to turn any window to full screen. It would be nice for some apps that I would not want to see anything from the desktop at times example Word, Photo shop, Web browsers, some folders and so on)

try hitting F in photoshop....it cycles through 3 views.

standard screen, full screen with menu bar, and fullscreen with no menu bar over black.....

- Multi-session burns out of Finder, rather than having to mess with Disk Utility and disk images.

- I kind of like the right-click drag functionality, which lets you drag something somewhere and get a destination action contextual menu. But then again, my trackpad can't easily right button drag, and I happily use a one-button mouse on my iMac.

- I'll ditto being able to rename files in a file dialog. I always try to do this and realize it isn't possible. :(

I like your handle, Lebowski.

2. Full screen window resize - esp in Safari
Plugins for Safari can do this (like Saft)
Also, what I've found useful sometimes (for reading in Safari (the oreilly thing, not the browser) and such) is to have a thing on the bookmark bar that's just a bit of javascript to resize the window, and then another one to get it back to normal:
Code:
javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
for fullscreen

and
Code:
javascript:self.resizeTo(1150,700);
for my preferred window size (where 1150 and 700 are the length & width in pixels)

setting a max limited to the trash can space.
In XP the users can give the recycle Bin X% of the hard drive space max. After that it started deleting the oldest stuff automaticly. If something is to large it tells you a head of time that it will be permentily deleted.

Nice think you have. The default in xp is 10% and I believe it can be turned all the way up to 100% (which is exactly like OSX since it can not do this at all)

I think on the other side of the 3 close, minimize, & resize button there should be a button (next to the button like in Finder, if you open it & look on the right side there is a clear ovally-square button) but there should be button next to that, which when pushed quits the program instead of just exiting it. Maybe even an option in System Preferences to just quit a program when it is exited & another option to have that special button....if someone thinks its ugly or something. I also think that instead of opening Preview (which even on a MacBook Pro) should be ran in the background...all the time...it doesn't take that much memory...or processor...so it should always be open & ready to open pictures because it is frusturation to have to look through pictures & crap like that. I also think that Apple should stop doing things like too deep in the system for a normal person to customize their Mac...I'm not a computer-stupid person & I still can't customize the frikkin' OS. (Without having to pay people like Shapeshifter...which isn't UB for me poor macbook pro)

I think...
Why would you want that? That's just like windows, and sucks even more when you accidentally press that and it closes the entire app. That's the case with some apps (depends on how you program it, but generally its not that acceptable for the app to do it, but I can think of a few where that is the case - hilariously enough someone's actually reported that as a bug, but i dont think the dev considers it a bug*), and its very, very annoying. Plus, too many buttons and you defeat the purpose of having buttons. Just get used to Apple+Q.

And also, Preview does not take a long time to load, if it does, your computer shouldn't have Preview running all the time to begin with.

Be able to CUT and paste on the Finder... I know about Cmd-drag, but I still want cmd-X/cmd-V to work. Why is it on the menu if it is going to be disabled??

/end rant :D

I did mention it was a seperate button on the other side of the 3 main ones right? & I also mentioned it would be cool to be able to have it in system preferences to turn it off if people don't want it didn't I. I am used to command+Q...but it still gets annoying...& if you're so use to going to the left side...why would you accidently click on the right side...? & it can't suck that bad if you accidently press it because if you are working on something that is unsaved it shows a prompt for you to save, correct? The point of buttons isn't to not have buttons....or atleast last time I checked...it is for convenience.

It takes 2 bounces to open Preview for me...not a lot...2 seconds...but wouldn't it be nicer just to click a picture & have it flippin' open instead of pausing for a moment & bounce in the Dock...& finally open...then pause again then finally open the picture??? IT is my opinion that there doesn't need to be a presented application to open a simple image... I almost ALWAYS have Preview running...because I do a lot of photoshop even on my MacBook & I do a lot of stuff with images.(& don't tell me preview is slow because its intel, or that I need more RAM, that's beside the point & not the reason).

Great idea but unfortunately that would also allow viruses to run too

I've just thought of one other thing too, although this isn't in Windows (its actually from 10.2 and 10.1), when a window is inactive it should go slightly dimmed or transparent. Another nice thing to have would be some themes built in, it would solve everyone's complaining about a non-unified look. There could be a theme for all brushed metal, a theme of all smooth metal (iTunes 6), a theme for all unified (Tiger Mail), and a theme of just regular aqua.

Its in Windows... the background window loses color and text becomes gray, and the red X turns blue, and the taskbar button loses focus...

mine take me to the top and the end of the page... what else are they to do?

Writing a long sentence, whoops, want to go back and edit the word "writing," hit "Home" and I'm at the beginning of the sentence! Want to go back and finish it now, hit "End" and I'm at the end, where I left off.

This is from windows and Linux, I would like an easy way to access the "top bar" (with the little blue apple) for example "control+e" to access edit...

Networked shares browsing.

Currently it's a case of finding a computer, connecting to it, selecting a shared folder, mounting it on the desktop, opening the mounted folder and then navigating.

This is the one thing I miss from Windows where networked computers would appear as folders that could be opened and closed as if I were browsing folders on my own machine.

Personally I think networking on Macs suck. I don't like the idea of the Public folder, when I drag something into it the object disappears from its original location - so if I wanted to share a lot of files I'd need to duplicate them, no thanks.

If they fix networking to be more intuitive and easy then it would be the ultimate OS, it's my only real gripe about OS X.

I haven't used windows in years but one linux/unix thing I'd love to be able to do is resize my windows by dragging something other than the bottom right hand corner. It's irritating having to put the top and left borders where I want them and then drag the bottom right hand corner.

The only thing I seem to miss is pricing.
I have managed to replace everything else I used daily or weekly.

I miss Right click/Send To with the Send To list defined by the user.
