Pedro. said:2 - I have a wireless network with other PC's in my apartment. I like to play movies from those PC's but they pause a lot during the movie, it's so annoying! i know that powerbook airport is crappy but here is the weird thing... the signal is always full plus the pause occurance differ with the player ( in RealPlayer it is very rare).
You might be losing or receiving damaged network packets for short periods of time. This can be caused by a number of things but wireless networks are particularly prone to "noise" from other devices. Your mobile phone for instance may send something which damages the airborn packets. You then have to resend all of the lost and damaged packets causing a pause.
In web streaming this is resolved by not resending broken or lost packets and trying to fill the gap by guessing what should be there. I'm not sure how it works when watching a film over the network. It possibly differs with different players, which would explain why it happens less with RealPlayer.
