I'm coming from the original Motorola Droid to the 4S. I used to be a complete android advocate and apple hater. But I am so glad I made the switch. iOS is just much more seamless. No random freeze-ups. I love it.

#1, Just hit either the home button or the power button and check the list to see if there's any missed events such as a call or text message.

That is no where close to the same thing. It is at best a bad work around but not the same thing.

An external LED notification is something that Apple just won't ever put in. It is seen as ruining the exterior aesthetic of the phone. I'm surprised they even put the LED flash on the phone. The UI is designed to get out of the way, and a flashing multicolor light is seen as too distracting for an Apple design. I used to think I wanted an LED until I owned a phone that had one, I have to admit after a week or two of not having one, you'll start thinking it's a blessing. There's not this blinking you catch out of the corner of your eye and driving you crazy slowly.

sadly I agree I do not see Apple doing it but they could easily do it with out hurting the exterior aesthetics. Take a loo at the Atrix and with the LED off try to find it. You need to know exactly where it is and then have the light hit the phone right to see it. When it off it will look exactly like the proximity sensor on the phone. Same with the iPhone. It will use the proximity sensor look in off mode.

Honestly that is something Apple really should add because it would add so much to the phone. It does not need to be as bright as the blackberry but something like what Motorola uses would be really nice.
