If you buy a Cube from a seller (especially one from another state/country/on eBay), and it's completely dead as I described above, it's most likely due to a PSU that's been in storage and cold as hell. The PSU hairdryer trick, which is running a hairdryer over the middle-top of the PSU on the HOT setting for a couple of minutes, will usually do the trick. Keep moving the dryer around so that it doesn't sit in one place constantly. Then attempt to power the Cube on again. It may take a couple of tries (it did for me), but eventually it'll fire right up.
Reseating the VRM board/connectors, and video card and riser are also good practices.
Rather than leave this with an EDIT: IT WORKS! post, I thought I'd turn this into something helpful. Now to install my Geforce 3 card so I can drive my Cinema Display
MORE: I had an issue with my USB ports not working. I'm not sure what happened, but I couldn't even get them to work from my Cinema Display. Frustrated as hell, I took the whole damn machine apart, cleaned every nook and cranny in it, regreased the CPU, put it back together, lit some candles, chanted some Gyoto Monk prayers (ok... those last two didn't really happen), and lo and behold, the damn thing works again.
I'm running the hardware test, then it's going on the shelf, never to be touched again (yeah right)...

I just got a Cube, completely stock except for a 512mb RAM upgrade, sold as working. Got it here, let it warm up a bit before setting it up, plugged it in, and... nothing. Dead as a door nail. No green LED from the VRM, nothing. I tried powering it on from both the momentary switch on the Cube and my 23" Cinema Display. I reset the PMU, reseated the VRM board, checked all of the connections to all of the boards, even tried the hairdryer on the PSU trick. Nothing.
One thing that happened was when I removed the core, the momentary switch and a screw fell out. This was before setting it up.
I bought this on eBay as working, so unless I can get it to boot, it's going back. I haven't contacted the seller yet (and he forgot the keyboard that was supposed to ship with it). Anything else I can try?
