after upgrading to the Xs Max I feel I can use my phone for general tasks and browsing when on the sofa which I use a lot of my 10.5 pro for currently. While the 12.9 will be used on my lap or a table for more longer based tasks. I do like the portability of my 10.5 but feel with a very big phone now do I really need that portabily instead of a larger screen? Plan to get the smart keyboard and if the bezels are smaller on even the 12.9 maybe this is the option to go for. Anybody who has upgraded to the bigger iphone got the same kind of mindset? What combo do you think works best for you for those who use their phone/ipad e.t.c

This has been EXACTLY my thinking! After taking the 10.5 on a week's vacation, I found I wasn't being as productive as intended because the screen seemed too small! (Didn't want to lug my 12.9 on the trip.) I'm anticipating that the new reduced-bezel form factor will make the 12.9 less bulky and more manageable, so I won't mind carrying it around more often.

Well then, what use is the 10.5? As a book reader? I have a Kindle for that. So, I just sold my 12.9 (while I could still get a decent price) and got the Xs Max. Wow! This big, beautiful screen serves as both iPhone and all the "iPad" I need while running around (no bag required!). When I need to do real work on the go, I'll bring the new, more svelte, 12.9 IPP.
(Keeping the 10.5 for now. Going to sell it as soon as Apple reveals the date for the iPad/Mac event.)

Agreed, Maybe it is all mental but after using my max for past few days my 10.5 doesn't feel that big. I know that sounds weird as it is still 10.5 compared to the 6.5 max but I get plenty of screen with my max so maybe the 10.5 doesn't quite feel as big.

I’ve been having the same thoughts. I didn’t get my iPhone Xs Max yet, but I’m planning to soon. I did some measuring, and when in landscape mode, the screen on the iPhone Xs Max is the same width as an iPad Pro 10.5 screen when in portrait mode. I played around with the iPhone Xs Max in the Apple store yesterday, and in landscape mode you can really load many web pages in desktop view and they are actually usable. It almost makes me think that maybe Apple should release some sort of foldable keyboard to go with the new iPhones, because you could probably get away with using them for some actual work.

It's weird I've just stood my max next to my 10.5 pro when the pro is in landscape mode and height wise my max isn't that far off my ipad. Scary how big my phone is length wise. Think i'm settled on 12.9 now but will see when they are released and how it looks in comparison.

I actually think the new 12.9 will be easier to hold.

Exactly my plan as well. I do have the Mini 4 still for random use (like traveling to not so safe places, using as a slightly larger video player.)
Hoping Apple does actually reveal new iPad Pros in 3 weeks, I'll be using:
iPhone Xs Max, 6.5"
iPad mini 4, 7.9"
iPad Pro 3, 12.9"

Kallum.

Don't ditch you 10.5 yet. Wait until you honey moon period with the Max is over.

While the Max is big the 10.5 iPad still has a 229.19% larger viewing area. I too thought my 6.2' My Pixel 2 XL was huge when I bought it but my 10.5 iPad screen is a lot more comfortable for watching youtube videos on in the kitchen or in bed.

In some cases, even the iPad feels small and I just browser on the laptop instead.

All my devices are complimentary and I roam between iPad, phone, TV and laptop depending on time of day and where in the house I am.

You’re my forum buddy but I hate you right now. I was set with phones. Happy with my X. Thought I wouldn’t upgrade for 3 years and was just waiting for the IPP. Your post started me thinking of my use cases. I miss my iPad mini. Most calls these days are on the watch or AirPods so size doesn’t matter. I vouch browse a LOT and a bigger screen than the X would be immensely useful.

Long story short since I’m coming to the states next week anyway I did the iPhone upgrade program thing and will have a gold max waiting for me. My very lucky fiancé (her first iPhone ever was my 7+ when I got my X) will get my X.

I’m never reading any of your posts again @The Game 161

Sheesh. I upgraded even when I didn’t want to.

Sheesh. I upgraded even when I didn’t want to.
Ha I’m sure you’ve made the right decision

On my max replying this now on the sofa while the pro is on charge and it just feels better for me. While the bigger pro would be for lap and desk usage.

Mini wise I get isn’t far off length wise from the max

Scary how big my phone is length wise.

This is why I can't pull the trigger on the Max. As much as I would like a Max in many situations the thought of putting that thing in my pants pockets every day is too much. I also hate the idea of having to use that thing in public situations like in line somewhere. I'm on a regular 8.

Think it is something you need to use with two hands out and about

I wouldn’t have gone for it without the monthly payment plan let’s be honest. No way can I shell out 1250 in cash a year after spending the same on the X. But 60 bucks a month I can find. Will cut out drinking and my nighTs out and it’s covered. And it’s coincidental that I’m
Headed home next week to take advantage of the Deal.

Right decision I hope. But payback will be served cold. I’ll talk you into getting a Hermes series 5.

Haha I’m the same. I wasn’t going to folk out £1250 either outright. I’m paying £93 a month but for me that’s manageable. I don’t go out drinking every weekend. I spend my money on tech end of the day.

And lol I could never imagine getting a Hermes. Far too much when my £520 watch does the same job

I’ve said all I will invest in apple wise each year is watch, iPhone and iPad. Got a wedding to plan for next July after all lol

That and I try and be conscious about use of my phone in public situations and try to be in the moment more without being glued to my phone. It's harder to be discrete when you have a phone that is approaching iPad Mini sizes.

Definitely wasn't planning on upgrading from my X, but getting a new 12.9 once its announced. Now you guys have me second guessing that
I blame @The Game 161

(Just ordered a gold 256 max unseen and will pick it up in Chicago. My SO gets the X. At least those damn Animoji guys will get some use now. That’s all she cares about) lol

His theory just made perfect sense so I upgraded with zero plans and zero interest prior to reading this thread.
[doublepost=1537725584][/doublepost]Btw looks like Rambo has found some new code about a fall IPP release. Maybe October perhaps November but I don’t think it’ll stretch to March 19.

@Relentless Power you have any thoughts of this or the reliability of the guy over the years? I’ve got no clue who he is.
[doublepost=1537725702][/doublepost]I don’t want to link to it here but it’s on the front page of a 9 to 5 competitor site :)

Guilherme Rambo is becoming more known. I believe he uncovered a bunch of code from the HomePod right before the 2017 fall keynote. He seemingly seems to come up with some interesting aspects about product leaks or what to expect with iOS features right before keynotes. Macrumors reports his findings regularly, I think he’s worth noting following.

Then fellas I’m cautiously optimistic we get our oct or early nov IPP. Read the full article. There’s a ton of detail and he’s flat out making a statement.

His predictions

Summary of what to expect for this year's iPad Pro, to be announced in October:

- No home button

- Face ID (with support for both portrait and landscape)

- No notch

- (Maybe) USB-C instead of light

Reminds me of the opening credits for the movie Shaun Of The Dead. People shuffling around town like zombies diring their morning commute. Lol. I love my iphone, but I am glad i grew up half in the analog world & half in the digital world. I can put it down for hours enjoy other things. I look at my niece & nephew, and they are literally glued to their phone screens.

Yes, I'm cautious also, but there are alot of things pointing to an event this coming month. Time will tell, but deep down i have a feeling it will be Oct.
