All of this to get to the fan and cooling components and I accidentally tapped the motherboard. So think I can get this both back together and working correctly?

I think it'll work. I've done this before, but to a friends HP laptop and it was in pieces on the shag carpet.

What is that, a Latitude 820 or something similar?

I used to work for a company that was a Dell repair center. Working on one is intimidating the first time, but it isn't that easy. You just have to keep track of all those tiny little screws and make sure all those tiny little cables are plugged in. By the time I left that job, I could field strip and re-assemble most Dell laptops blindfolded. :)

well putting it together should not be the problem.

install windows later, and it will not work.

install linux later, and it will work. :p

    happy christmas, btw.

Looks like it'll be difficult but you seem to know what you're doing ;) I certainly wouldn't.

Well I got it back together and then realized I didn't reinstall the WLAN card so I took it apart again, put the WLAN card in and XP is running seemingly fine as of now. I have no idea how much longer that computer is going to last as it's on its last leg.

4 lol. I call them spare parts. I was too distracted by my new iPad prototype...

Bunny wasn't amused as I was.

I actually did have a really good time. It was almost therapeutic. I had a rabbit on my lap, a bottle of Bawls on the night stand (to honor computer people), a Leatherman and a small bit kit, a bright Surefire LED flashlight, a head of lettuce, and some hopes and dreams for the best. Tomorrow it probably will have burnt my house down so it's a good thing I did enjoy it and so not all is lost.

As long as this is not you, I think you will have it working well even with the "spare parts" and all.

    I'm impressed.

I'm about to install an optibay in my pre-unibody macbook, and I'm a little worried. Hopefully the iFixit guide will provide adequate instructions.

    Best of luck to you...

In the picture with the bunny it looks like you created a Cybourgunny. The wire looks like it is connected directly into the bunny's brain.
