I have the series 4 and just got done swimming. Now my screen is completely blank and it won’t respond to a hard reboot. Gonna put it on the charger when I get home and see if this fixes it. Not sure why but my battery was at 66% when I entered the pool and only swam for an hour. Good thing I pay monthly for a warranty. Will they replace it with a series 7?

Nope. They keep older models on hand for replacement. In the unlikely event they don't have any more S4, they might offer an SE or S5.
They are sending a S4 out to me. But I need to keep my band and power charger. I will go 3-5 business days without Apple Watch (bummer). I have wondered what they did with the millions of units after they introduce a new model.

Water resistance doesn't last forever. Since it sounds like it died during/after swimming, I wouldn't be surprised if the seal fail and let some water in.

Or maybe I will stop showering with the watch when the replacement arrives.

My 3’s battery expanded spontaneously after a swim and apple refused to acknowledge it for a year until it was a recognised problem. By which time the 4 had come out. So even though I had no useable watch through no fault of my own, they didn’t replace it with a 4. Really bad show by apple. So that’s how you’re likely to get treated unfortunately….

I hope not.

If it's any consolation I had a watch series 4 for four years (I now have the 7 and it's fabulous) and I cycle a lot and, towards the end, the watch would give out at about 60% for no reason after about 20 odd kilometres of riding. Not all the time, but often enough to be very annoying. Fortunately I have a CatEye computer on the bike as well so I still knew my kilometres but not my heart rate. I ended up by fully charging the watch before every bike ride and that solved things but it seems the same problem as with you, a sudden failure and for no apparent reason. The Watch always re-charged straight away and annoyingly went straight back to the amount it had when it failed.

If apple does not cover the water damage I will be out $400 for a series 4 when I could have bought a series 7 darn.

I'm confused. Doesn't Apple tell you whether they'll cover the damage before you pay for the repair? Recently, we had an iPhone with a swollen battery. We got into an extended argument over whether we could replace the battery by just paying the battery replacement fee, or needed to pay the higher out-of-warranty repair fee, but Apple didn't repair/replace the phone until we had agreed on the price. Shouldn't the same procedure apply to the watch?

They put a hold on the debit/CC and mailed out the replacement series 4 in exchange I need to mail the defective series 4. If they do not or will not cover the damages I will be out $400.

You don't have an option of returning the replacement watch if you don't want to pay the repair fee?

I thought you were saying that when they get the old watch, they'll evaluate it to decide whether or not the damage is covered under warranty, and if they decide it's not, you'll be charged $400, right? Or did I misunderstand you?
That is correct. But the seal broke and water got it. I believe that is covered.
