Truthfully, I hoped for a nuclear battery but thinking about the average joe led me to think otherwise. People aren't too careful and the last thing we need is a bunch of mini nukes to go off. :)

But yeah we definitely need to push some of the newer battery concepts being demoed, lithium-ion tech has reached the maximum amount of electricity that can be shoved in a cell.

But that battery gain was almost entirely based on the Haswell chip, built by Intel, which we knew was coming and was years in the making specifically built for long battery life.

The iPhone doesn't have a "Haswell" chip on the horizon to expect that type of battery jump. If anything Apple simply kept the battery size of the MacBook Airs the same (just like they basically will with the iPhone).

Mavericks also drastically increased the battery life. It shows that apple is committing to battery life.

If motorola ever makes a good android phone that's not huge, they can prove good battery life can be had in a decent phone. They're already getting 3-4 days of use with their maxx phones.

The phone is huge because the battery is huge. There is no innovation there just a gigantic battery. Not saying that's a terrible thing because it gets the job done but there is no break through technology there.

Until 12 years ago my cell phone battery was bigger than the iPhone and the available talk time per charge was less than half as long.

The battery milestone has already arrived in increments.

12 years is very long when it comes to tech.
Yes, back then the phones were big and heavy and so was their batteries.
Cellphone tech has improved but battery hasn't kept up with the advances IMO.

I don't believe that 2G talk time has improved during that time as a result of technology. That is purely battery tech. The battery itself is 1/10 the size and talk time is more than double. A twenty-fold increase, along with quicker charging and the elimination of the battery memory issues is significant.

Arguably, it has not kept up with other technology, but it doesn't seem like most recognize the advances that have been made.

I agree, battery definitely has improved but also power consumption has been improved greatly on the devices from previous cellphone models.

Think we'll ever see any battery milestones?
"Ever" is a very long time so yes. Just because something hasn't happened in the past few years doesn't mean that it will never happen.

I'd give anything to get three and four days of life from our devices, phones especially. :/
I seriously doubt that. You're not willing to carry a much larger, drastically more expensive and less featured device just for 4 days of battery life are you?

Besides, it's never what one person prefers in any mass produced product. It's aggregate demand.

Both were merely exaggerated expressions to express my thoughts.

S4 with ZeroLemon 7500 will give 4+ days. It's not much larger, drastically more expensive and less featured - for them to be true, you have to have very small hands, hate buying unlocked phones, and hate using anything that is not iOS.

An iPhone with 4+ days battery life between charges will never happen because the current iPhone design philosophy centers around form over function. The only things going with the iPhone are small, stylish, sexy, iOS and iTunes... functional is not one of its strengths.

ISOBAR surge filters are incredibly unsexy, for instance, compared to Belkin et al. But it's almost always the unsexy things that work in the worst of times.

I wish that someone else would copy Motorola and bring out a MAXX version of their phone. Who wouldn't want almost two days on a charge?

Would have been nice if the iPhone stayed about the same thickness as the 4S and got a larger battery in that space.

No one would have thought twice about it. Now they can never make it thicker again.

What's wrong with making it thicker? I am OK with that if I can get two days on a charge...

I would be perfectly happy with that too. But it won't seem like "progression". People will bark about how the new iPhone got fat again blah blah and how its s "brick".

You could get a battery case...

I've debated it. Mophie even has one that is water resistant but I've head bad reviews. I need something that can handle being out in the rain, so I use a lifeproof case.

Not only does a battery case make the phone bigger, you also don't get to use the full capacity of the case. An internal battery uses the full capacity offered by the cell relative to its age. An external battery needs to upconvert from 3.6/3.7/3.8 to USB 5V and then downconvert to 4.2V (typical voltage point used for charging lithium batteries), and the process is not 100% efficient.

My own experiences with external batteries indicate that I typically get 60-65% (worst case scenario) of the total capacity going from external to internal. For the iPhone 4/4S/5, anything less than 2400mAh and you won't get a full charge from empty, while ~1900mAh at best gives a full charge from 20% (when you get the 20% low battery warning in iOS).

That is very true. You are putting it in technical terms. I am just talking about extending battery life.

Mophie's Juice Pack Pro is great if you never have to make calls with your iPhone, that's why it got poor reviews.

Yeah, the phone feature of my iPhone is pretty important to me unfortunately.
