Awesome

you can try this http://www.marcmoini.com/sx_en.html It has a similar functioning

This is EXACTLY what we need.
I'm using it right now and its GREAT :)

I advise everyone to download the trial, and IF Apple is going implement this into 10.6.2 you won't have to buy this (30 day trial)

The only downside of this is that isn't as "smart" as Apple would make it.
example: when trying to scroll down only a few pixels or so it still has a slight momentum to it... :p

So I am 100% sure that it is possible to get momentum scrolling on any computer that has a scrolling trackpad, so yes, we could see such an update. However, knowing Apple and reading about the 10.6.2 seeds, it is highly unlikely that we will see momentum scrolling with trackpads anytime soon. I think it would come in OS X 10.7. Apple doesn't like to rush things, as we saw with the pinch and swipe gestures, Apple made those available on older MacBooks and MacBook Pros like a year after it appeared on the MacBook Air. I'm sure they don't need time to develop these features since they already exist, they just want users to get a Magic Mouse if you want momentum scrolling. If you got it as an OS update, you wouldn't buy the Magic Mouse.

Maybe, but the implementation of the MBA's multitouch trackpad into the Macbook Pros was not just dealing with software. Apple had to update the hardware, unlike this situation, where only a software update would be needed, as we already have trackpads capable of this.

:)

I'm just wondering when Apple will finally return to a dedicated CLICKER on the MacBook Pro. I don't like all this trackpad/clicker all-in one stuff. I like to actually have a clicker, that works like one should!

But then I have a tiny trackpad, so I can't run my fingers on it anymore! :p

Exactly!

I'm curious, does anyone know how that "Smartscroll" software works? I mean, how does it work in every app? Does it install some system-wide thingy (for lack of a better word :p) It looks very interesting, but I don't want to install something that will slow my computer down or modifies something important to OSX.

nickel and dime

I'm doubtful about it. If anything, Apple would release a new MacBook (Pro) and tout it as a new feature and reason to buy it.

basically if Apple built Ferraris we'd have to wait for the Ferrari 4GS in order to get anywhere. Apple's motto might be: "reinventing the 4 wheels. Apple Ferrari 4GS now ships with complimentary tires".

It doesn't sound like a very difficult thing to implement on any trackpad with 2+ finger scrolling. Apple will prob just wait until after the holiday season to release this.

... and we'd have to purchase car keys for $29.99. that is, given we'd have jailbroken the proverbial Apple Ferrari, of course.

Marketing strategy!

please read a book on Marketing. at the very least a chapter. Philip Kotler never said Marketing is about holding back on basic features if you can deliver them now.

coming up next: fanboys throw a fit and accuse me of trolling this forum.

Way to revive a dead thread

man has a point.

still waiting to go to 8 GBs on my late 08 2.8 CTO MBP...one of the few models that got hosed for going to 8 GB.

Please tell me if I am missing something..... but don't we already have momentum scrolling? When I flick slowly it barley moves, when I do it fast it gets to the bottom or top of any page. Besides, I thought momentum scrolling was the effect it gives when it slows down to a stop instead of suddenly stopping... which mbp trackpads also do. Forgive me for my ignorance

Think iPhone scrolling, that's what we're talking about.
