About a year ago my Brother-in-law and his girlfriend announced their engagement and plans to get married in Gibraltar on the 14th July, and being a wedding photographer I was asked to photograph their wedding. The plan was for me and my wife to go out to Gibraltar for a weeks holiday with the wedding in the middle.
A few months later my wife and I found that we were expecting our first child with the due date only 2 weeks prior to the wedding. Obviously we had to rearrange the plans and now my wife Jo would stay at home while I fly over to Gibraltar just for the wedding.
Anyway, June came around and our son Isaac was born on the 20th. Jo was sad to be missing the wedding, but flying with such a little one was going to be a bit much. Then enters the iPhone 4…..both myself and my brother-in-law had bought one
a week or so before the wedding and we hit upon the idea of FaceTimeing Jo in if we were fortunate enough to have WiFi access at the venue.
To cut a long story short, after a bit of faffing with wifi configuration at both ends we managed to get a link and Jo joined us all the way from the UK for the wedding at the top of Gibraltar's rock with views of Spain, Gibraltar, and Moroco for the entire ceremony, guests mingling, and for the speeches. She had the best view of the event and even made it into group photos, as you can see from the photos below.
FaceTime worked flawlessly and Jo felt like she was there with us.
