Today i made the plunge on trading in my old beautiful Imac 27 inch 2014 with Retina display. It has a beautiful screen and there is nothing wrong with it, but i also rock a VR gaming machine and its just taking up way to much space on my computer desk to have both machines, (plus a new Ipad Pro 10.5 inch)

As much as i hate to get rid of it, i only really use the Imac for surfing the web and the ocasional youtube video, all i can do on the gaming pc and the ipad pro.

That said, i loath using window and will be in the market for a 2018 Macbook pro as i want all my apple products to be portable and eventually i want to get into some 4k video editing.

What im thinking is wait till WWDC (Gotta save up anyway) and then make the plunge. Im thinking a 13 inch with touchbar and hopefully they will impliment face id into it as well and i wouldent mind a 1080p front facing camera (the phones and tablets have them) and maybe a 4k HDR display athough at 13 inches it really isnt nessessary (i can always buy an external 4k monitor later)

Do you think at wwdc we will get something like that for under 2k? Im hoping so..but want your guys thoughts on this.

Al

Definitely not. The current design still has life in it, and we won't see that major changes before the design changes. New CPU, new GPU, new SSD, maybe T2 chip.

1080p camera - certainly a possibility; Face ID - very slim chance of it happening. The Retina display is also unlikely to be changed to a 4K panel (MacBooks are 16:10 as well in case you weren’t aware). 8th gen chips are probably the only thing that will change in the 13” (with maybe higher SSD capacities for the same money, if Apple are feeling generous).

When is the rumoured release date
There isn’t one as such, we’re in a year where Apple’s only major (known) hardware refresh (i.e. something that will require an event, not just a press release) is the iPhone at the end of the year. So with no rumours for events a refresh could be tacked onto, it could literally happen anytime from March to WWDC in June.

I actually find it fairly odd that Apple hasn't updated their displays even though they bumped up the "default resolution. They should aim for native scaling with their default resolutions ASAP.

i agree. I imagine the next redesign will bring FaceID as well as a 3360x2100 or whatever it'd be display.
The non-2x scaling started with the 12" MacBook though.
