Just to let you know that it's safe enough; I almost download everything and visit as many sites as I want, and there are no problems. No virus scanner or anything like that. Just common since. Download the latest updates (my little brother always wants it as quick a possible).

Really, I know no-one with a mac that uses anti virus.

And, oke I'm very anti windows, passing viruses through isn't that bad as it will only get windows people to the apple side:D

No, no, no!

IMO, if you feel like being the least bit socially responsible and not passing on virii to others, I suggest trying out ClamXav. It doesn't take a lot of resources and with multiple core computers there really isn't a huge reason to whine about it.

It's like a condom for your mac.
:D

Here's the skinny.

First, I rarely ever post on this site, but I am an hourly leecher.

I just want to get the record straight once and for all. The are no-none-zip-zero viruses for OS X. They're not impossible to write, but the multiuser nature of UNIX makes it difficult to write. This is why trojans exist; they are like viruses, but you need to provide the authentication. These are extremely rare, however, and any OS X antivirus software you install wouldn't be able to detect the virus in the first place, because it wouldn't know what to look for.

Windows, on the other hand, is loaded with tens of thousands. So if you're worried about your Mac being a carrier, then you might want an antivirus, but I wouldn't recommend installing one for OS X. Just install a Windows one on your Windows machine.

I would still never suggest paying for antivirus software, because the companies charging for them are the ones making many of the viruses. Google it, you'll see what I mean. So go open source when choosing.

That's my piece.

Norton is absolutely horrible. As a tech support guy I've seen huge numbers of people with complaints and issues with there software.

I feel bad for the people who open up there wallets and spend $99 for Norton 360; the all in one solution from Norton. More like all in one headache if you ask me :p

I see no reason to purchase and use a AV on your Mac, unless of course your a huge torrent downloader and don't want to take a chance.

Norton is a Virus

Norton AV is a virus itself. One that will slow your machine down, and cause untold grief. I would not put it on any system. It is the sort of program that will make you want to buy a Mac just to get away from it.

Now that you have escaped it, you want it back? Crazy!

If you want to what running Norton is like, take your right hand and grab the hair on the back of your head, use this hand to slam your head into the keyboard.

This is how good Norton products are for you and your computer.
