Christmas is around the corner, thinking about getting iPad rMini for the kids. Is 16gb good enough? Or should I be better of with the 32gb. I have 32gb iPad Air for myself.

Your kids are going to collect and use bigger media files than you will ever understand. At least 32GB, 64GB IMHO, 128 if you're Daddy Warbucks.
My kids got 16gb mini 1's for xmas last year. Lucky $359 v $479 AUD now.
16 has been fine.

16GB would be acceptable, but 32GB would be great for long term. If you're the kind of person who likes to get the bare minimum then 16GB won't be a "bad" choice. With 16GB it's not like they're going to be suffering because they have to delete a big app every time they want to delete a new one. But like I said, for long term the safe route is 32GB. Also if it is multiple kids using this then I would go with the 32GB

This for sure....I can't manage with 64GB any longer as apps get bigger and bigger, and teens do like their games!🙂
