hotmail deleted some of my messages!!!

i checked online to my hotmail account and i found out that hotmail has deleted some of my mail for no reason at all. i know this becuase i got an email from one person each day for like 40 days very recently, and suddenly, some of them have dissapeared. other emails have been deleted too, and hearing about ms' deletion poiclies, it's really annoying....

more in a little bit, just cleaining up my inbox on hotmail, getting rid of very old and unimportant messages.

i downloaded the macfreepops as mentioned earlier, but i can't seem to get it working at all. can someone help me out on this please? thank you. i would like to see if these work before the ball drops....

read some more things and it looks like the pops won't be of much use at all. i've been wating to get a new account for myself anyway so now i'm in the phase of asking questions of what to do with my new gmail account.

1. i heard someone talk about managing all of your email accounts through your gmail account, is that true? how do you do that?

2. is it really that simple to get the gmail account to your mail app?

3. i have an invite from 2005. is that still vaild? i will register sometime tomorrow and hope to have an update by next weekend.

4. can i transfer my old hotmail email messages to my gmail inbox?

i'll have a few more questions later...

about the hotmail account, it's going to become regulated as a secondary email account before being decommisioned completly i hope by next new years eve. i'm not letting it delete for at least six months though, so i have some time to get all my contacts onto my gmail account and stuff like that.

1. gmail has a feature where it can pull your email from other email accounts that offer POP access.

2. yes, they have a step-by-step guide that tells you what to do.

Don't know about 3 or 4.

I'm trying to get NetZero working, because I signed up for an account long, long ago, but for some reason it and MacFreePOPs don't get along. :(

I just wanted to add, in case anyone gets to this via forum-searching, that I went to the MacFreePOPs website initially, and found the juno.lua for NetZero from there, and it was 0.09b, and wasn't working. I googled again and the latest version is "g," which seems to be working great -- all my old mail from Netzero (mostly spam, but I just need to go through once and delete all of it now, and then I'll have that mail account back! :) ) is importing.

If you do end up using MacFreePOPs, half the time, when it doesn't work, the solution is to update those .lua files....

okay, a couple of more questions before i sign up for the account.

1. i heard google scans your emails to see what's in them. is this true? to what extent is this exploited?

2. i heard you get ads in your emails. does that happen if you transfer the email to the pop or is it just like the ads you see in the end of hotmail messages and what not?

3. can you direct mail from all of your accounts to your gmail and send them under the other email accounts through gmail, like if you want to send something from your hotmail account, can you do that in gmail?

thanks. hopefully, this is the first step to making emailing fun again.

gmail puts ads on the same page that you use to read your email -- it doesn't put anything in your actual email. It's the same thing that Hotmail/Yahoo do, except when you open an email, gmail parses thru it and tries to puts ads on the page that it thinks may apply based off of the email. That's it.

If you pull your gmail thru pop, you see no ads at all.

I was wrong about gmail being able to use POP to check your other email accounts. It can't. Instead, you can set those accounts to forward your email to gmail. On gmail, when you reply to an email that was forwarded from another email account, you can make it use the address of that account (like your hotmail).

You'd probably learn the most if you create a gmail account and play around with it for a bit. Their online help is excellent, and you're under no obligation to keep using the account if you don't like their service. If you need an invite, just PM me and I'll get you one. :)

on gmail now..

i set it up finally...so basically this will likely be my account for personal emails and talking to my friends, while the hotmail account slowly becomes regulated to newsletters and the such. i have my uni email i can use for work and stuff and that's pretty much it.
