I bought a craigslists Mac Mini earlier today

Add said that it was a 2011 Mac Mini, 2.3 i5 Processor, 500 GB HDD, and 4 GB or RA for $430.

Guy made a mistake and actually had a mid-2010 model, 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 320 GB HDD, and 2 GB of RAM.

I bought it from him for $280 dollars.

It runs great, but i'm think about selling it.

Here is my question. I mostly surf the web and type papers, but every once in a while I make movies in Final Cut Pro X.

Will this machine run Final Cut Pro X or should I sell it for a Core i5 processor.

A 2012 Mac Mini from Amazon is $549
    500GB HDD
    4GB RAM
    2.3 Dual Core i5 Processor
    USB 3.0

I could upgrade my current Mac Mini and spend $499
    120GB Samsung SSD
    8GB Ram
    2.4 Core 2 Duo Processor
    USB 2.0

    What do you guys think?

The i5 is a lot faster on FCX.
But if FCX is serious, don't get that 120 Samsung, get a 128 one! Sounds like no difference, but the 128GB models are from the Pro series and a lot faster on writing big video files.
The C2D one with SSD will probably feel snapier on FCX in handling than the new one with HD, but it will take at least twice as much time to make the final render.

I would go with the 2012 model mainly because of usb3.0 and the processor is more superior. You can always upgrade the 2012 when you come into some money, whereas if you upgrade the 2010 it is specked out the the max then. You are also not factoring in the sale of the 2010 into the saving on the 2012.
